Lining too thin, General

Hi girls,

I have been waiting to send this email because I really did not want

to face the facts. I had a follow up SHG in Jan. 03 to examine my

cavity and lining after surgery with Palter in AUG 02. It took

awhile to get the results from Palter, but he finally responded with

not such great news.

My lining is almost nonexistent, barely 0.5mm at the thickest part.

Dr Palter told me several days ago that my cavity is open but

extremely small and he told me we could have the green light to TTC.

He is not sure about the size, which could possibly lead to

complications of preterm labor, if I was to become pregnant, but

mostly he is concerned with my lining. He feels that try as I might,

I don't have very good odds at becoming pregnant. He said, there is

just no healthy place for an embryo to embed in my uterus at this

point.

We discussed my options, which include all the things you ladies

already know about for trying to thicken lining. He said, none of

the therapies are proven. (Asprin, Viagra, hormones, vitamin E in

high doses, etc) He said there are new experimental tests that he

could do to test the functionality of my endometrium. Because they

are experimental, no insurance would cover it per Dr. As well, if

the test shows no function of endometrium, then there is a definitive

answer to whether or not I would ever be able to become pregnant,

etc. I could try the therapies recommended to see if lining

improves, but have already been taking the asprin and estrogen.

All in all, it is a pretty sad day, but at least I know the facts.

My DH is much more disturbed by this than me because deep in my

heart, I already felt this to be true. I think I had already

accepted this awhile back. Dr Palter is supposed to call me over the

weekend to discuss the biopsy of my lining in case we want to

determine if it is functional at all.

Take care......nancy w

W,

I'm so sorry for the news you received. That just stinks!!! I know

what you mean by having a bad feeling and knowing it in your heart.

That said, it doesn't make it any easier to accept. I will say a

prayer for you and your dh and hope that you are able to find a way to

make your lining grow or another way to add to your family. Take care

and I wish there was something that I could do to help.

Bethany,

Thanks for your response and inspiration of hope. I know of other

cases where miracles have happened so I will continue to pray and to

hope and especially continue my efforts to educate the public about

AS. One of Dr Palter's other patients, , has two miracles in her

family right now and I am constantly focused on those beautiful gifts

from God.

Thanks,

THanks for your response .

Dr Palter is under the impression that during the six months since

surgery, the lining has probably grown to as thick as it will get,

but as in an earlier post I wrote, he said he has learned never to

say never because the body is an amazing continually changing

environment. He thinks that the lining is probably not functional,

which means it would be unlikely that I could get pregnant, but the

final answer remains in question. I don't know if I will have the

biopsy due to costs and even if it turned out good, I could still

follow the only protocol advised for thin lining. Meaning the

treatment would be basically the same either way. I hope to learn

more when I speak to him again this weekend.

W,

I was so sorry to read your update as I have been sort of hoping against odds that you would get good results. I know that your situation was extremely difficult but we have known many miracles to happen in this group. I'll keep you in my prayers and please do keep us informed with any information you get from Dr Palter. I was also thinking that if your lining is almost nonexistent, then why were you having some good periods lately. I'm sure it was you that mentioned good periods.
