Guest guest
My ASD son has been on SCD from April 27, 2005. I've been giving him almond yogurt and he was doing well except for constipation and stimming. I decided to try homemade goat yogurt on July 18. I started with 1/8 tsp the first day and 1/2 tsp the second day I was excited because he had a normal BM on both days. The third day I gave him 1/2 tsp again but instead of a BM around the time that he would usually go, he was hyper, laughing with poor attention instead, after being calm all day. I increased to 3 1/2 tsp the following day and he was calm and had a BM but seemed to have sensory problems. The largest amount he has up the last several days was 7 tsp and he had a tantrum that day. The other symptoms he's had over the last few days were more aggressive and impulsive behavior, and a coated tongue on Wednesday 7/27. Should I stop the goat yogurt all together and go back to almond yogurt or just decrease the amount? I didn't give him any yogurt today, just a probiotic capsule and he is calm. Also the second batch of goat yogurt I made yesterday was runny and I couldn't drip it like I did the first batch. Does that mean there is still lactose in it because he woke up at 4 AM in the morning and was walking around the house and he hasn't done that since he was 3 and still drinking cow's milk. Thanks in advance, mom to 8 yr old ASD son --------------------------------- Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page

You should probably stop it at least for a few days. When you are ready to try again I would go even slower increasing the amounts and skip days in between. Ther is a lot to get used to in the yogurt - *a lot* of bacteria, enzymes etc. The yogurt may be clearing " kunk " out of his system and causing a lot die off. So when ready again using epsom salt baths and/or activated charcoal may help to ease some discomfort. >I didn't give him any yogurt today, just a probiotic capsule and he is calm. The yogurt may act farther down in the intestines so would have a greater impact than probiotics alone. > Also the second batch of goat yogurt I made yesterday was runny and I couldn't drip it like I did the first batch. If it didn't set up like the other batch I'd be concerned about using it. About the constipation - what is he eating now and how is it prepared? Guest guest
Hi , > He eats zucchini, butternut squash, green beans, carrots, pear. I've tried peas & carrots and peach and he seemed to have been more hyper during that time. I've also tried cauliflower once and did not see any reaction to it. I have trouble with peas (all legumes actually) but am okay with cauliflower also. > He also eats chicken, beef and eggs and on rare occasion fish. The vegetables are boiled and the meat is either boiled or baked. He also eats baked goods with almond flour. I did not give him any almond for about a week to see if this may be causing the stimming or constipation, but it didn't make any difference. How much almond goods/day? Can you increase the amounts a bit to see if it helps. The usual suggestion is to try prunes or prune nectar to ease constipation. For some with yeast problems it doesn't work. My constipation seemed to be caused by/made worse with yeast. I've been using natural antifungals for many months and recently started one of the yeast enzymes. That combo has really made a difference for me. > I have a hard time stopping eggs for more than 1 day because have to hide his vegetables in pancake, omelette or muffin which seem to fall apart if i don't use eggs. He drinks diluted Gerber pear juice or Dole pineapple juice. I didn't want to give him apple or grape juice because of the high fungal residues. The gerber pear juice isn't legal. > I have to give him juice to dissolve his supplements because he can't swallow capsules or tablets. His supplements are legal versions of > magnesium, selenium, calcium, zinc, vitamin C and cod liver oil. I think (?) that some posted about using cooked beets to help with constipation. They may be an alternative to prunes/prune nectar. Sheila

Guest guest
Hi Emma, > yeah ive been thinking of making saurkraut its supposed to have wonderful enzymes and probiotics - i just havnt been able to find suitable containers to do it in??? You can make it in crock pots or glassware. If you don't own a crock pot you can sometimes pick them up at thrift stores and yard sales. > thats interesting that it caused die off - when the boys started lactoferrin and candigest they both got runny noses and soft stools - the manufacturers were quite surprised at that, said it was rare to have die off!! mind you they also said that taking their antibiotics etc wud make the enzymes have to work harder - but ive looked into it at a few sites that have said that these products can only work synergistically with anti fungals etc > > im considering putting it with caprylic acid wen their flare is over - its been weeks on and off now so im hoping that theyll both stabilise after the medicines and that there wont be much inflammation that can be irritated by using it You may want to rotate the antifungals (caprylic acid) to keep keep ahead of the yeast becoming resistant. Also did you find out anything about the caprylic acid and UC and why they are contraindicated. I found some locally and am considering adding it to my antifungal cache. > i have to say that the nut yog seems to be taking hold - it appears the batches i made previously havnt been much cop - last eve it came out thick!!! which was an absolute first > > ill keep u posted Please do Sheila, SCD 54 mos, 21 yrs UC mom of , SCD 39 mos
Guest guest
hi sheils, as far as im aware if ur during an ulcerative falre - the capryliv acid can irritate it and cause it to become more inflamed - therefore my understanding of this wud be if ur having d its a no, but if stools are fine and theres no obvious pain etc it sud be okay hth emma Sheila Trenholm sheilat@...> wrote: Hi Emma, > yeah ive been thinking of making saurkraut its supposed to have wonderful enzymes and probiotics - i just havnt been able to find suitable containers to do it in???
