I don't remember what the antibiotics did when she wasn't on the diet but I

can't rememeber it EVER being this bad while on the diet. Whatever the case it

makes sense I guess, being on so little anticonvulsants makes her much more

dependent on the diet which I do think is comprimised by the

antibiotics.....especially since she was on a 2.8-1 ratio which is borderline

seizure control for her but since she hasn't grown or gained weight much we

decided we needed to bring her down as far as we could without losing control.

Yesterday I decided to try putting her back up to 3.5 until this is

over.....seems drastic but with no sleep all week it was worth a try. We'll see

what happens tonight....then I guess we'll know if it makes a difference...in

which case if(more like when) she has to go on again we'll know we have to up

her ratio while on antibiotics. Oh I'm soooo tired......it's been a long

week!!!!

LaVerna....tired mom to Rebekah who doesn't seem to get tired......

Re: antibiotic reaction - LaVerna, Rebekah's mother

Have any of you experienced unusual reactions to antibiotics when on the

diet and on almost no anticonvulsants???

Well, on anticonvulsants, I am absolutely convinced that antibiotics wreak

havoc with my son's seizure control. No doctors 'believe' it...but I dread

putting him on anything as we always see a big increase in seizures. Our

neuro

is convinced that it's the illness itself that lowers his seizure

threshold...but the increase lasts the duration of the antibiotics...long

after the

original illness has faded.
