Lax: I was sent to a Pain Clinic by my primary care physician. The pain doc

decided that mscontin would be best for me, so after she sorted out the best

dose she sent me back to the primary care doc for further scripts. She said

that all patients who received narcotics from the Pain Clinic had to go thru

psych testing and MMPI. She said she didn't feel I needed to go thru that as I

truly needed the drugs for pain. (My joints are very bad and it is obvious

that I have joint problems. My thumb actually dislocated when she shook my hand

- kind of freaked her out). She said my primary care doc should have no

problem writing my future scripts. I also had a meeting with the counselor who

complimented me on my good outlook with my life and handling my disorder. She

thought having me go thru an MMPI was not really necessary, but it was a rule at

the Pain Clinic. The counselor also agreed that iit would be best for all if

my primary care physician would write further scripts.

Well, my primary care doc threw a fit. Even though he had written other

scripts for me involving narcotis - he really had a " hissy " over this. He blew

up

so much, that after seeing him for 6 years, I am leaving his practice.

I found an Internist who doesn't know EDS, but has always been interested in

Connective Tissue Disorders. He has no problem writing a narcotic scrip for

me, as long as I have my records forwarded to him from the pain clinic. It was

difficult finding a new doc and actually called over 20 practices before i

found one to take me on. Most of them were afraid of the disorder, but many of

them never even called me back. Oh well.

I feel very happy with my decision to leave my original doctor. Sometimes

when you get a fresh opinion, it can be beneficial.

Happy New Year to all.

Michigan Pam
