Using Kosher symbols to determine milk content

I saw this listed under the Food allergy network, and am replying so someone else's post. I have to clarify this, as I had the same issue. I work with Jewish friends, and just because it is Kosher-Dairy does not mean it contains milk. This symbol has to be used if the same equipment, although cleaned, has ever used milk on it. It does not mean the product is contaminated, or contains milk. I personally do not use this to determine whether the product contains milk. It is too confusing. Only use this if you are Jewish and avoiding milk because of your religious beliefs. (They do not eat milk and meat at the same meal). There are many many different types of Kosher symbols too and they all mean different things (depending on who approved the product). Sonja
