Hi ,

Your fears are perfectly natural! Try to remember that you are doing this

for your life and that the odds really are in your favor!

Mostly, keep reminding yourself that our precious Father is watching over you

and will carry you through this surgery.

You are in my prayers!

Hi everyone,

my name is Prewer (patricia) I am having surgery 05/01 and I

am beginning to get a little scared. I thought I had worked out all

the insecurities but since kristin, they have all come back. I know

that this surgery is the only way that I will ever lose this weight,

I have tried everything else. I have been praying and thinking about

all the positive results of the surgery, but I still can't help but

think of kristin.

I am 46 years old a mother and wife and have a full life,, but would

love to get up in the morning and not hurt all day long. My legs and

back are beginning to give out on me and I hurt all the time. This is

the main reason for the surgery. I want to feel better. I want to

look better also, but the medical outweighs the comestic.

I find myself crying while I am riding down the road and I really

don't know why, sometimes I wonder if I am ready mentally for this

surgery. I think I am, or I was.

Somebody have any imput to my delima

HI:

I can certainly understand your fear. I am the worlds largest wuss. And after

Kritin died I

certainly did have second thoughts. But that has passed for me. Like you, I

can't stand

getting up because my feet, knees, ankles, etc. hurt all the time. I hate going

to Wal-Mart and

asking to be dropped at the door because everything hurts too much to walk from

the

parking lot...I used to park far out just for the additional exercise.

There is nothing wrong with having a fear of the unknown. There is nothing wrong

with being

scared of the outcome. This is a major decision. I get scared before a visit to

the dentist or to

the foot doctor, so I know I'm gonna be a mess when I get my surgery date. But I

am going

to get my date and I am going to get my surgery.

One thing I learned a long time ago is that there is no shoulds with feelings.

Feelings are not

right, they are not wrong. No one can tell us how we should feel. Feelings are

just...well...feelings. Of course you're scared. Lots of people are.

My husband had a triple bypass. I'm such a wuss that I don't know if presented

with the

choice of life or death if I would have that surgery. Just having him go through

it majorly

grossed me out. I can only imagine what I'd be like if it was me...and at 57,

it's not a far-

fetched possibility. I guess when the time comes, we do choose life.

You can always change your mind and reschedule your surgery. No one will think

any less of

you. You can always go forward even if you are scared to death. No where in Dr.

R's

literature does it say that you can't show up and have the surgery if you're

scared.

My solution is to talk things out with people that I trust and am comfortable.

For this reason,

I'd suggest that you come to chat tonight and as often as you need or want, and

talk with all

of us....some of us are scared but looking forward to it, some of us are scared

out of our

wits, some of us are moving forward with no fears. We re all in a different

place and yet all in

the same place. We understand.

Here's a hug, that's all I have to offer since I'm pre-op too!

hey allison, i think you are just normal. after all this is major surgery. i

have been all weepy and emotional (scheduled for the 3rd), particularly

about my children. my baby will be one on may 4 and will be with my mother

that day.( the week of may 1 was the only time i could work it out) . my

almost four year old is old enough to realize i am going on a trip. i went

ahead and bought my baby's and oldest child's birthday gifts, even though i

am not going to give them to them until i come back and we celebrate with a

big birthday party . i stuck them back and told my husband where they were

and just busted out crying- telling him they were there in case anything

happened to me, i wanted their birthday gifts to have been bought by me. i

felt a lot better after a big cry! i really think we are just having normal

jitters. email me if you like and we'll talk. i will be thinking about you

I don't know that I have any input other than to say I know how you

feel. I've not even sent in my paperwork yet because of being afraid. I know

that I want this surgery and I know that I need it. My children are grown, my

son still lives at home so I think that most of my fear is not for myself but

the thoughts of leaving my husband, my children and grandchildren. I am going

to do this I have to. I don't have to many physical problems right now

(borderline diabetic, B/P a little high) but I know at my age (44) that it is

going to get worse and I might leave my family that way soooooo if it has to

happen I want it to be knowing that I was trying to help myself, to have a

better life and to be a better everything for my family!!!!!

to be on the other side,

son still lives at home so I think that most of my fear is not for myself but

the thoughts of leaving my husband, my children and grandchildren. I am going

to do this I have to.

A Little Scared, but wanting

to be on the other side,

Cathy in Lenoir, NC
