Guest guest
Hi! Anyone out there heard of or using low dose maltrexone? I've just heard that Dr. McDandless is doing a study of this " cream " and that other DAN Dr's are also testing it. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you, Pat Wow! High dose vitamin A, I love it! (slightly OT) Hi folks, Ackerman once said, she would pay anything just to get into the body of her son to see what its' like to be autistic. I found this link that explains so many reasons for my sons' autistic behaviors! (I have a low functioning 4 year old and a high functioning 2 year old) It's incredible! Why didn't I think of it sooner? Lack of depth perception and stereoscopic vision, poor muscular control for visual tracking/focusing etc would explain most of my kids' autistic behaviors! (transition tantrums/lying limp on the ground, peculiar running (turning head side to side), inability to catch ball, low attention span, visual stims, lack of social skills, lack of imitative pretend play, self taught spelling, perfectionism, rigidity, does not run/extremely careful 2 year old, etc etc) See link: http://www.asw4autism.org/vision.htm Wow! Ephiphany! This article allows me more empathy as a mother It's not that my kids do not want to follow instructions, they cannot Hmm.. now we see the " why " s, now what? Thanks to super mom Katrina Chin who told me about Megson's high dose vitamin A protocol we tried it on 5/18/5 and in less than 1 week, we see great results (it's true this is no controlled experiment we are doing a kazillion other things (HBOT 6/18/5, SCD diet re-started from scratch 6/9/5, TD-DMPS since 8/8/04, etc) but we feel improvements are due to vitamin A since we saw them before we started HBOT -by now (about 1 month), when I give my son verbal instructions, his compliance/response is IMMEDIATE! It used to be he did not hear me and require many repeats and physical prompting -increased rate of acquistion of mastered skills in ABA from 1/month average to 17 in June -getting 100% on block imitation: as if he finally has 3D vision and can see " front " or " back " -improved long distance vision noted by 6/12 (and quick response) -by 6/2 sustained attention when he unloads entire laundry from dryer (before this he would " forget " half way and require a zillion verbal/physical reminders/load -by 5/30 allows himself to be cuddled for long time (he used to say " stop it " after a few seconds) -etc..slightly more varied language (due to HBOT?) I've also heard good things of high dose vit A protocol from other moms on abmd yahoo group: " I have noticed more of a calm, longer attention span, seeing things that he may not have seen before.details of trees.. " another mom notes: " Visual stims significantly reduced [they required more than just this protocol to entirely eliminate, but this was the first step], increased language, especially in spontaneity of use of words rather than gestures, significant reduction in echolalic speech, increased social interaction and pretend play. " This is what we did. (ask your DAN! Doctor about it, I'm no Dr.) I gave about 200,000+ IU vitamin A (~40 drops) for once a day for ONLY 2 DAYS 1 toll free to order from Klaire lab http://www.protherainc.com/prod/proddetail.asp?id=V060-01 http://www.tahoma- clinic.com/shop/product_info.php/manufacturers_id/23/products_id/31? I got mine from Dr.Bob $15 I think and then stayed with ~1 drop/day at the end of ~1 month we gave prescribed (compounded) bethanocol(=urocholine) http://www.picmc.com/bethanecol.html as outlined by Megson protocol http://www.vaccinationnews.com/DailyNews/August2001/IsAutG- AlphaEtc.htm http://www.megson.com/HYPOTHESIS/MEDICAL_HYPOTHESIS_ARTICLE.html after 1 week, my son had a very very red face and lethargic, fever, but in good mood. Was that a side effect? We don't know. ask your Dr. about side effects! by now we are still giving 1 drop (=5000IU) vitamin A and 2x/day bethanochol.. this is 2 months now next, I will check out Dr. (not seen her yet) http://www.drjulieryan.com/vision_therapy.html to confirm if these vision problems truly exist in my kids and if they need vision therapy http://www.visiontherapystories.org/vision_autism.html I imagine as mercury affects the muscles of Gross, fine motor and GI smooth muscles, Mercury also affects the controlling of eye muscles. Thus we hope chelation will help in the long run. But I think high dose vitamin A is doing something as a quick (and cheap!) intervention. I imagine (we've not yet done) vision therapy will be strengthening exercises. Anyone who has done vision therapy or has more insight on this topic please enlighten me. I am just an excited mom, stumbled upon this idea and theorizing Jzin On a quest to be a more accepting mother while refusing to accept autism D, age 4, LFA, SCD since 12/03 V, age 2, HFA, official SCD with intro 6/9/05 For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book _Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the following websites: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info and http://www.pecanbread.com
