Guest guest
Carol, have they ruled out type 1 diabetes? I'm not saying you do have it,but from your description it sounds as if this has hit rather suddenly and hard. With type 1 you go through a " honeymoon phase " that is similar to type 2, except your body continually makes less and less insulin until it stops. Again, I can't dx or tell you that you do, just something you might wanna consider, esp considering your profound health problems. Yes, those 1-2 hr spikes are important. According to the ADA, you should never be getting over 150 (www.diabetes.org or com, can't remember which) Different docs are gonna have different opinions on this. Mine told me, and research I've found tends to agree, that it's those initial spikes that can be just as damaging to the body. I have always been given the rule of under 150 at 1 hr after eating, under 120 after 2 hrs of eating. I hope your health problems clear up -- quickly!! My doc wants me under 180 at 2 hrs after and before bed (I drop hard and fast during the night even with a protein or fatty snack) and under 140 before meals. I was diagnosed t1 back in May with levels over 500 and an a1c of 14+%. (Even with crazy 200+ readings mixed in with my under 160's (personal goal), my a1c was still 7+% in Sept...yay!) I'd love to get regulated enough to lower my goal numbers though! ) Under 120 2 hrs after eating is like a dream for me...lmao. Someday... -Jess
