Stretching difficulties...

Monday DJ and I went to the physical therapist for his tort. She gave

us some stretching exercises that seemed relatively straightforward

when she did them. I tried them today without much success. DJ wiggled

so much that I feared I would hurt him if I really tried to push his

chin in the opposite direction. He is VERY strong. I cannot see how

this is going to work for us. We're scheduled to visit PT every other

week, but now I'm thinking we should go at least weekly if we're not

getting good stretching at home.

Any ideas??

Our PT just showed us some new stretches and they do look so much

eaiser when she did them. She did suggest we do them several times

in front of her so she could see how we did and correct anything.

She also suggested to sing rhymes or play games with them while you

do this. She sang the monkeys on the bed and the frog song. I'm

going to only use these songs for stretching so it becomes routine

for him- he loves it if you turn it into a game.

The first couple of times were a bit akward but after I got the hang

of it, he really seems to enjoy them.

> If you're having difficulties doing the stretches at home and you

can afford to increase your PT appointments to once a week then I'd

say go ahead and do it. It's only going to get more and more

difficult to stretch him as he gets bigger and the PTs are

professionals who know what they're doing. I know exactly what you

mean-- it always looks easy when the PT is showing you the

stretches, but as soon as you get home and try it yourself it's much

harder!
