Mike,

Well I had to quit smoking and that has not been as

hard as I thought it would be. I still want one when

I am surfing the web for more than a few minutes and I

can't play my SIMS2 because I always smoked while

playing but other than that I do okay.

I am trying a lot of different protein shakes and

recipes trying to find the most economical solution

and have had some really gross stuff pass my lips here

lately but I have found a few winners.

Lastly I am trying to give up the caffeine. I am

doing it slow. Instead of the 2 diet cokes in the

morning, 2 at lunch and 2 at dinner, I am trying to

wait until lunch to have 1 and then 1 at dinner. That

has been the hardest so far because I am trying to

avoid the headache.

Another biggie is waiting on the insurance approval.

I have bitten my nails down to nothing!!! Huh, I

wonder if there is any protein in fingernails???

I am so grateful that I quit smoking many years ago... I couldn't imagine trying

to quit while trying to have major surgery. Also what you said about not playing

SIMS2 because of it being an atmosphere of smoking, they say the same thing

about snacking... if you used to sit in one particular spot to eat... then you

should sit elsewhere... funny, but it works for me... strange...I am grateful

that I did not have a big problem with the insurance company like many here... I

cannot tell you how grateful I am for that...

Misty,

Just think of the alternative to surgery.......If you continue down the

road your on now, what kind of medical issues could you be fighting years

from now......You can take great strides to stop all or most of those issues

now. I used to be a diet coke-head......Now I am hooked on crystal light, I

have a half gallon a day habit!

I was never a smoker, but the big problem I faced until earlier this year

was insurance in general. Here in SC our state insurance has cut out any

gastric bypass surgeries and I had to wait until Medicare decided to start

covering bariatric surgery and that is when I was able to have it done.

Shauna,

I quit smoking in July when I had my hernia repair so

it has been almost 3 months. It is only when I get

around " triggers " (like SIMS2) that I really want one

but.........

As for the snacking, that is a big demon for me too.

We have a countertop here at work with all kinds of

snacks laid out and a fish bowl for your money. I am

used to hitting that 4-5 a day. So resisting that is

hard.

But I want to be healthy so I sing little songs to

myself that I have made up, get online etc.

You are indeed blessed to not have to deal with

insurance. I called them this morning to see if they

had received the fax pre approval request from the

surgeon (faxed on Friday) but it is not showing up on

their system. She recommended I wait another day.

LOL Waiting is such a virtue of mine, NOT!!!!

I do know the back pain is going to get worse and probably require surgery

to release that nerve that gets trapped from the weight on my spine. That is

the biggest reason. I just want to be able to stand again without pain and

walk without the side of my leg going numb, that's a freaky feeling lol. I

am 99% sure I will have the surgery, the other 1% is left up to medical test

and my surgeon giving the ok. But I am still afraid, but I keep telling

myself that courage is being scared but going ahead and doing it anyway. I

have never been one to back off when things get tough soooo guess I will

eventually have a date with the surgeon.

Tonya,

I was in the same place you are.......Its embarrassing, or at least it

was for me, but it was worth it....What Im talking about is that pre-op I

would go over to my local Kaiser and weighed myself like once a week on

their scale. My scale would not go that high so I had to. I was willing to

put myself through that so I could keep tight track of my weight and MAKE

SURE I didnt gain any! If you have this option I would say to do that. Do

whatever it takes to get your date and stay on track.........Good luck.
