Guest guest
Hi, guys... haven't had much time to post since last Thursday. Hello to all the " newbies " who joined since my last post. I see that several of us already had the surgery since last Thursday. Hope you are all doing well... you are in my prayers. Does anyone else (pre-ops or post-ops) get scared and wonder if you're doing the right thing? I sometimes feel like I'm being weak and maybe I should try a little harder. I look at my children and try to imagine what their lives would be like without their mommy. My daughter is four. She would definitely remember. My son is seven months, and though he would hear a lot about me if something happened, I doubt he would have a memory of spending any time with me. I have waited so long that now I am getting scared.... I wonder how different my life will be afterwards... will I develop other health problems? (Like needing my gall bladder out?) I could handle that. They could take it. After all, I don't need it, do I? I will take my vitamins religiously. So this should prevent any vitamin loss or malnutrition, right? Just wanted to hear your thoughts........ __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Missie, Your children are a LOT more likely to end up motherless if you DON'T do this than if you DO, so put it out of your mind. You're making the best decision for yourself AND your family, so take comfort in knowing you're doing the right thing. As a mother you'd probably throw yourself in front of a train for your babies--so the MGB is a piece of cake then, right? Pax, E. Guest guest
Missie, I do know what you mean. I have 3 kids (6,4,8 mo) and I wouldn't do anything that would jeopardize my life, and possibly leave them behind. I guess I feel that if I don't have the surgery, I'm taking more of a risk! Especially now while I'm young (32) and relatively healthy. I'm already unable to do things that I want/need to do to be their mom, so I can't be as good of a mom as I want to be - and they deserve. I feel the risk of having this surgery is minimal compared to the certain disability/death of morbid obesity. I live in constant pain - how does that affect my patience and ability to cope with three small kids? I'm always exhausted - I can't do the things that other families do without much preparation and rest both before and afterward. I had my 4 yr. old's birthday party here Saturday. I'm still in physical pain from the stuff I did, and would love dearly to go upstairs and take a nap. I missed Easter mass yesterday for the first time in my life because I was just too exhausted to get up, dressed, get the kids dressed and go. I'm feeling terribly guilty about it, but I hope God will understand. I want to be able to be the wife my husband deserves. I love him dearly, more than he'll ever know, and want so much to do fun things again and be able to have sex without embarrassment and discomfort. I can barely remember those days. I want to keep the house, run the laundry upstairs, pick up toys, play at the park, sit on the lawn outside without needing help to get back up... Anyway, I do understand. I wish you the best on your journey. I'm dissolving into tears, so I need to go. Blessings, ~Amy. ____________________________________ Amy S. Guest guest
This is just a question.....My family has become alarmed at the loss of . My parents and I were at a clinic visit a spent time speaking with her. Even though the events of her passing are alarming for me they have not detered me in my pursuit of the operation. My mother asked me to sending a posting as to weather there are any details as to the cause, where the pre-existing conditions. I realize that this may not be an easy subject to discuss, but both my parents and members of my support group in this process they they will better if the know more details. They feel it will allow for a more informed decision. I too am anxious to know more details. I hope that this note dosen't come across crass, but I feel that we all need to know since we are all in this together.

Guest guest
Dear Missie, I'm not scared, I want to LIVE!!!!!!! I know that if I don't do something drastic NOW, I will end up dying from diabetes and heart disease like both my parents and this terrifies me. As far as dying from the surgery, my faith in God tells me that He is the only one that will determine my fate. If it is my time to go then so be it. I can think of a lot worse ways to die. I just can't stand the thought of just sitting here and allowing myself to be consumed by morbid obesity for the rest of my life. I REFUSE TO LET THAT HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This surgery is a very personal decision. The more I research MGB and other types of weight loss surgery, the more I understand that God sent me to Dr. R's website for a reason. I honestly feel that God was holding my hand and guiding me to Dr. R. As far as Dr. Rutledge is concerned, I have never met the man but I certainly plan to. I am going to entrust him with my life but I have no fear. His track record and his patients undying support is all I need. This man has saved the lives of his patients and improved the quality of those lives not to mention the lives of their families. He has positively impacted hundreds maybe even thousands of lives with his crusade to eradicate mobid obesity from his patients. What a comforting thought to place my life in his hands. I can't wait......... Sincerely, Genz ( Genzel from Texas ) Missie Gooden wrote: > Hi, guys... haven't had much time to post since last > Thursday. Guest guest
Hey Missie~~ I think it's natural to be a little scared----after all the MGB is major surgery, our bodies will be " forever " altered. But like everything in life, you must way the positives against the negatives and see which list is longer. You have to evaluate the track record of the surgeon, and the infection rate of the facility in which you will be hospitalized (even though being in for a short stay helps). If the MGB allows you to be a better mom, be more energetic and be able to spend more quality time with your children (such as participating in a baseball game or going on carnival rides with them instead of just dropping them off at the ballpark/amusement center gate) then I certainly feel that it would be more advantageous to have surgery than to go on with the lifestyle you have now. We have all talked to dozen's of post ops, we've heard the best that can happen, we've heard the worst that can happen. I think now is when we are able to really weigh the pros and the cons and decide with assurity that this surgery is what we need. I look at myself and yes, at times I think I could try harder, or I could avoid eating certain things, but the thing is, in the past, I HAVE avoided eating those things, I have dieted until the cows came home, but every time I just wind up putting the weight (plus more) back on faster than I ever did with the last diet. Why would I want to go through that horrible experience another time?? As far as needing your GB out, Dr R has post ops who have normal gallbladders take Actigall for several months following surgery during the greatest weight loss. That prevents stones from forming and also dissolves any other bile acid stones if they are present. The thing is, with Actigall, if you resume your old eating habits, those stones can re-form and you're right back at square one. But a person who's had an MGB, their eating habits have changed and they are eating healthy, so there's much less chance of the stones developing. For myself, I think the benefits far exceed the risks involved. Now if I could just get my insurance company to agree.........LOL fg At 07:44 AM 04/24/2000 -0700, you wrote: >Hi, guys... haven't had much time to post since last >Thursday.
