Eyes, cateracts-(sp) and macular degeneration

Hi guys,

On Monday of this past week, I had an appt. with my retinal specialist. I

hate going partly because my eyes stay dilated forever and the doctor is so cold

..

I have macular degeneration ( not bad yet but it shouldn't be there at my

age) and then this doctor told me, very matter of factly that I also have two

cateracts. I had to stop him and make him go back and repeat what he had said!!

He then said that I had two very small cateracts, that it wasn't unusual for

my age (50) that most people my age also have cateracts and not to be so

worried and that they should't become problems for mmany years. I wonder which

will

become " problems " first; the macular degeneration or the cateracts! I do have

to admit that when I first found out about the Macular degeneration (not

age-related in my case!) several years ago that I really did feel slightly

freaked

about it. I have had many many surgeries but this news threw me. I can imagine

not being able to use my shoulder, or elbow or knee again but I can't imagine

not being able to see. That news just hit me differently.

I was wondering how many of you also have been told y ou have cateracts or

M.D.? I know they are not related to EDS... or at least no one has ever told me

that M. D. is.

thanks for the info!

I personally have not had cataract surgery. My wife, however, just

had it done on the 22nd. My mom, two of my aunts and one of my

uncles have also had it done. Everyone of them has said it is no

big deal. You have to put a bunch of drops in your eye, several

times a day, for a couple of weeks afterwards, but that is about

it.

The only downside I can see so far of her getting it done is that I

can't sneak out using her blind side anymore.

Am scared to death, but know it needs to be done. Hope someone else

> on the list has had it done and can help reassure us!
