Guest guest
Hi, For the past week, I have been weaning my son off grains, He still gets 1 rice cake a day and some rice cereal for bkfst. and rice milk. I'm doing it a little slower, so my son does not go into any kind of shock from doing it to quick. I guess he is having die- off because he is miserable and unfocused. Have others gone though this, and how long should it last? I also wanted to ask. How does one know if the diet will work for your child? I've read some testimonials that some kids improved practically overnight. I'm not seeing that in my son. Any input would be appreciated. On another note. My son's stools are greenish brown in color and sometimes soft and sometimes more formed. He does not have alot of diarrhea like he did awhile ago. He occasionally does. Does This mean I can consider his diarrhea cleared up and start raw fruit and vegtables? We were 75% SCD already without knowing anything about the diet. The only thing I have had to do is eliminate his rice pasta which he ate alot of. I just have to get him off his rice cereal and rice milk. AS I said any input would be appreciated. Should his stools look like what I have described? Thanks, Sue mother to 4 1/2 ASD

Guest guest
Hi Sue, My son is 13 and we have been on the diet since May. At first we saw little change but the past couple of weeks he hasn't thrown up once (he has crohn's and was throwing up at least once a week and very weak and lethargic). His energy level gets better every day now and yesterday he even went canoeing for several hours. I know the book says to give the diet at least a month but I would definitely try for more as it seems to very slowly be helping our son to regain strength and energy. I'm sure it will be the internal un-seeable stuff that heals first and then you will see improvement on the outside little things at a time. Caleb didn't seem to have any yeast die off but he had been in the hospital on a liquid diet for some time and I don't think he had all the yeast problem that some folks do. For sure don't give up. Caleb gets really excited now whenever we try new baking recipes and loves to help out. Good luck. Guest guest
Sue, All the good steps are giant ones for us. We have learned to rejoice and be encouraged in all the tiny moments of joy. It is amazing to me what I am learning about life and what my priorities are now. Caleb continues to teach me every day with his courage and fortitude. If he can be as brave as he is on a continuing basis then I can do no less. So glad your son was playing tonight. If you are like me you just let him stay up a while and play and loved every second of the noise. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, Thanks for taking time to answer my questions. I really appreciate it. Something positive happened tonite its not a big deal to most but for me this is good. My son started to play hoops in his room unprompted. When he is having problems, his play is affected first and is usually the last thing to return. His speech is not usually affected when he has a regression. Don't understand that completely. I guess it has to do with what part of the brain is being healed or injured. I hope you have good luck with the diet. I'm going to be forced to become a gourmet cook. lol lol!! Guest guest
Hi Jane, Thanks for responding to my email. i feel alittle more encouraged after your post. Something big happened tonite. NOt big for others but big for me because when my son is regressing his play is always first to go and last to return. Tonite my son played hoops in this bedroom for the first time in a few weeks totally unprompted. He is currently wanting to play instead of going to bed!!!!. Well sometimes growth isn't perfect but you gotta take the good with the bad lol lol!!! I hope you son continues to progress and feel better. we are all in this together.
