First of all I'd suggest you read some of the articles I referenced in message #'s 70259 and 70262. There are a couple you should read very carefully. You should read the National Center for Complementary and Alernative Medicine's May 2004 consumer Advisory on Colloidal Silver Products at http://nccam.nih.gov/health/alerts/silver/ The NCCAM is very supportive of alternative medicine and does not issue advisories lightly. Also, PDRhealth's evaluation at http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/nmdrugprofiles/nutsupdrugs/col_028 9.shtml PDRhealth also is supportive of alternative medicine and is very objective. You say you researched it in detail. ly, when I researched it I found nothing of substance supporting its use. All of the sites peddling it referenced 19th century medicine. The 19th century was full of now discredited medical theories that sounded good at the time, but have not held up. Don't forget that colloidal silver fell out of use as an internally used anti-infective long before the discovery of antibiotics, for the simple reason that they didn't work. Silver compounds have continued to be used in very limited situations as topical anti-infectives. Alcohol, I'm sure you know, is another substance that is very effective against infectious agents when applied topically, but is useless against infection when ingested. If you have references that are substantive and objective, I'd love to read them. I would also suggest you re-read your references carefully and try to discern whether they represent science or salemanship. There are a lot of reasons why older people get the flu less often. For one thing, we have not had a really major flu epidemic in a long time. As we age, we have been exposed to more and more viruses, and have developed immunity to them. For example, I rarely have viral illnesses - no more than one mild one every couple of years - and I have heavy exposure to people with active viral infections virtually every day. I've just built up immunity over the years to many strains of flu bugs. Also, when people retire they spend much more time at home and with a limited circle of friends, substantially limiting their exposure to viruses compared to when they were in the workplace. My suspicion is that colloidal silver machines produce a product with extremely little silver in it. After all, they wouldn't want to get sued by someone who turned blue or developed kidney disease or neuropathy. The products are probably relatively safe because they are so very diluted. However, I don't know for sure the amount of silver you are ingesting. That would be very important to know. Ultimately, the decision's up to you. If it were me, I wouldn't use it.
