Re: Banding Brachy ONLY

We decided, after our appointments and even getting the band, that we

would not hand our son who has brachy (no facial assymetry). Just with

the aggressive (constantly watching him, sling use, no stroller, no

back at all, etc. -- hard work!!) repostioning we can already see a

slight improvement in the roundness and it's been about a month. I

think it may take longer than if we had the band, and won't end up

perfect, but we can already see his head rounding out (he's 6 1/2 mo).

It is a very slight difference, but definitely there. Max had problems

with the band, too. He was allergic to the foam. So for that reason

and others we decided to use other methods.

My son has Brachy only and has been in his STARband for 2 weeks and

we already see a difference.

The 1st week, he had grown 2mm in length and we are starting to see

more defintion to the back of his head.

We have a very hard time deciding on whether to band him or not, but

so far, we feel we made the right decision.

I dont know how long your baby has been wearing the band, but there

is an adjustment period...so you may want to consider sticking with

it a bit longer. Hard to believe, but they do get used to wearing

and sleeping in it.

We used the DOC band on our DD who had severe brachy. After about 7 months,

she is almost ready to graduate. Her head is noticeably rounder and all

untrained eyes who see it comment on how good it looks. She will graduate

at about 89% which is less than 2 standard deviations from norm (she started

at >101% and 5 standard deviations). We have been very happy with the

results, even though it has been a long journey.

Hi ,

my daughter wore a starband for brachy and had great correction and

very few problems adjusting. for us docband was 400 miles away and to

be honest I didn't even know about the options when we started. I've

heard very good things about CT/Doc, so if it is that or quiting i

would definitely try it. i'm not sure if you would get a starband

refund (?). have you asked your ortho to recast your child to get a

better fit (and use hypoallergenic foam since i think i remember the

rash being a problem). or is there another ortho in the office you can

use who might have more experience?

starband can work, but it really does depend on the ortho. we are in

california and had a very experienced ortho. you can see our results

under Our Plagio Babies S/ Sydney M. (both pics and scan).

I hope you'll find the right fitting band for your baby.
