When I lost weight, the only thing I did was cut back on the amount of food

I was eating and walked. Walking doesn't cost anything and it is one of the

best exercises, I think.

You need to call your doctor again and ask him or the nurse to explain

exactly what he means by hyperinsulinemia and you need to tell him you want to

start testing in order to take care of your health and ask that he write you a

prescription for a monitor and strips. You need to also ask if he will

schedule you an appointment with a nutritionist to set up a food plan for you.

Hi,

These two children should be all the motivation you need to get started on a

weight loss plan. You want to be around to watch them grow up, get married

and have grandchildren.

I was told I have hyperinsulinemia. First off what exactly is it. He

said it is not diabetes yet. Also I am to loose weight. What kind of

weightloss program is out there for a mother of 2 who is a stay at

home mom living on one income? I need to do something as I am 100lbs

overweight and it is going to catch up to me someday. Shouldnt I be

taking my blood sugar levels. What should I be doing for my condition

except taking glucophage? Well I think that is all of my ?'s for now.

Thanks in advance.

Get yourself a bicycle and use it for transportation. For every errand, ask

yourself " Can I do this on my bike? " and if you can, do. Get panniers and

baskets so you can go to the store. There are also accessories that will allow

you to take the kids along. (Your local bike store can show you what is

available.)

Cut out starches as much as you can. Potatoes are NOT your friend. If you must

eat bread, rice, and pasta, go for whole-grain versions.

Needless to say, sweets are out. If you need a bit of sweet, go for fresh fruit

rather than candy or cake.

This is what I thought until I bought my wife a large box of Belgian

Chocolates from Costco and ate most of them myself. I ate about 6 to 8 pieces

very odd. So I continued doing this daily for about a week and almost never

got spikes in my sugars. But if I eat a piece of pizza or some french fries or

some bread or too much rice then bingo, up she goes.

Hi Rand,

I eat candy without any high readings. When I'm baking cookies, I'll

usually eat 2 or 3 cookies. Doesn't bother me. Sams Club had those Belgium

Chocolates for 1/2 price Monday.

I can eat one slice of pizza with the crust, then 1 or 2 slices without the

crust. In fact, there is very little in the way of food that I cannot eat.

I think my attitude and my activity have a lot to do with the way I can eat.

Yes, I used a glucose monitor and tested my BS two hours after every meal. I try

to keep my BS under 120 (after meals) to facilitate weight loss. If a meal made

my BS go higher than that, I would lower the carbs.

I'm having trouble with staying on my low carb right now due to stress from the

eye surgeries. Seems like the first thing that I want to do is stuff carbs in my

mouth when I feel bad or am depressed.

All the best,

There are several different cookbooks for diabetic recipes. I found one

recently that was in the bargain books at and Noble that has 2000

recipes. There is also one with 1000. Look in the cookbook section under

special diets. There is also a website someone posted one time on Yahoo

Groups:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Healthy_Recipes_For_Diabetic_Friends/<http:\

//health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Healthy_Recipes_For_Diabetic_Friends/> that

posts recipes all the time.

When I first got diagnosed I got a couple of the cookbooks and then one that was

on " what to eat when you have diabetes. " I can't remember the name right off,

but it goes into what nutrients are good and what foods have them. The other

thing I did was look on yahoo groups for a support list and found this one.

With those things I was able to do pretty well changing my diet before I got to

my training session with the nurse at the clinic I am now going to.

certain sugars don't really have a bad effect. Well all I know is what I

experienced this month and cannot explain why. ly I was shocked. Anyone

have any ideas on this?

But here's a problem I don't know if its associated with my diabetes. My legs

feel very weak (numb ...not tingly, can still feel everything on my feet) like

the muscles aren't working right or something and the muscles feel odd and this

is getting worse quickly along with transient shortness of breath. I'm going to

get a MIBI scan next week but my EKG is normal but my anxiety level is very high

over this and some other events in my life.

Any if anyone has any ideas please reply.. peiday@...

Rand

I do not use drugs for my type2. I don't feel good on drugs of any sort so

eventually I'm in trouble I realize.
