Hi Janet,

I take 10 mg of Ambien *with* melatonin. I find it much more effective this

way. I go to sleep faster and sleep for about 8 hours.

Prior to taking the two together, I slept about 5-6 hours a night on Ambien

alone. I have seen no side effects in the 2-3 months I've been doing this.

OTOH, a friend of mine didn't get same results, but since melatonin isn't

expensive it might be worth a try. YMMV...

Helen, have you ever tried my favorite sleep aid, generic Benadryl? 2

pills 30 minutes before bedtime and I'm out in 15 minutes. Before

Benadryl I had the most AWFUL insomnia - all 3 kinds (but not in the

same night) -- : initial, when it would take me 3 hours to fall asleep,

middle, when I'd fall right asleep then be wide awake at 2 a.m. and not

able to fall back asleep, and terminal, waking up at 4:30 a.m. never to

fall asleep again.

With Benadryl (generic) I fall asleep right away and sleep through the

night, at least until 5:30 when the alarm goes off.

And I'm not groggy in the morning, either.

Helen, probably tou already know this but to avoid rebound, don't stop xanax

abruptly but gradually ie take a smaller dose than usual when you plan not to

take it the following nite.
