Guest guest
Hello, aël is still bad, he's sick and vomits all yesteray and the day before, so I decided to lower the ratio at 3.1, maybe it's a bit to low to go to 4.1 then to 3.5.1 three days ago because he was sick and today I try 3.1 because he's still sick... After the last vomitting, I gave him a few drops of fresh orange juice and it was worse he vomits again , he c'an't drink at all, immediately he does very strange noises from his stomach and vomits or so... I noticed carnitine and vitamine b6 was improving his vomitting too, as he doesn't swallow, I crushed the carnitine and b6 and put in a spoon of food but it's still terribly acid taste! He's very sensible to acidity taste. So I stopped it. Yesterday his blood keto level was pretty high for him, it was 3.7 and the last one 3.9 mmol/l. But it's not enough for some others children so I'm not sure it's acidosis which causes him so much problem... He's still very tired when he's like that but can't sleep because of the seizures. He's still have but maybe it is a bit better because they are less intensive. Thank you to tell me what you think about he situation, I need help! Carolyn, aël's mum, 6 , on the " real " keto diet since end of july. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Carolyn, When Tanner was vomiting before we took him in for the ketogenic diet and after he got on it for about a day the Neurologist told us it was from the seizures. Have you talked to the Doctor about something to stop the vomiting? Make sure he doesn't get dehydrated. It can be very dangerous. Also the seizures wear the child out. Tanner was tired but couldn't sleep because of the seizures. So it is hard to tell what is happening. The week before Tanner went in he was having a lot of seizures. The doctor put him on diazapam. I hate to give advice because I don't want to cause more harm. I would talk to my doctor. Hallie what do you think?/ratio... Guest guest
Carolyn, I think you mentioned you have the diastat, you should give him a dose to try and allow his brain to relax, it seems to me when stella is in the same pattern as ael, she needs something to just quieten the seizures, then the diet can work. Did you stop the MCT oil? I know you were giving him that for a while. We did stop it because of the vomiting. Now i give Stella really simple meals, cheese/strawberries/cucumbers/macadamia nuts and I mix whipped cream with canola oil for the remainder of the fat. She tolerates this food well, and since it is all finger foods, she is more than willing to eat it. I also add a couple drops of almond extract to the cream and dilute it w/ water so it's not so thick. Sometimes trying to change the food helps too. But a 3-1 ratio is pretty low considering where he has been, I do know you need to give it a week or sometimes 2 to notice any significant changes. Will he suck on ice to try and get fluids in him? He may be very dehydrated too, which can cause vomiting and more seizures. Try drinking through the straw, but sucking on ice/ or shaved ice really helps us get more fluids in Stella when she is doing bad. Guest guest
Carolyn, It sounds like he is extremely dehydrated, and you take him into the ER for some IV saline? None glucose of course, this really helped sTella turn around, it could be his dehydration which is causing this. Canola oil, is just vegetable oil, it has no taste so i put it in her cream, when it is hot outside and my coconut oil has melted I use that too, since it too has no taste. Will he eat icecream, whip the cream, add the coconut/vegetable oil and freeze with vanilla/almond extract. You can make a full meal out of this using a little bakers chocolate or fruit for the carb. Bakers chocolate has a lot of fat in it too so it uses up some of the fat requirements. You can also make a custard with egg, cream, butter, whip it all up and add a couple chunks of strawberry/blueberry on top/ bake, it comes out solid, tastes like a custard desert. Add a little vanilla extract, and I add a little stevia for sweetness too. But i'd go in to the ER for some fluids, I think that would be my first choice. We also had Stella fast a day when she was seizing really bad, and that seemed to help too. amanda > , > > Last night I gave intra rectal valium to aël and I think it > helped this time to have a rest and to limit seizures. > I stopped mtc oils but even he vomits nearly every meal. > Now he's just vomitted, I quickly check his blood keto level and > it's 2.4 mmol/l !!!!!!I don't know what else to do!!!What does it > mean? > > I don't know what is canola oil? > Did Stella vomit every meal? > ANd how many days it lasted? > Thank yoou for your ideas, Nath doesn't drink and doesn't suck ice > neither, I try to put somme drops of water very often but it's very > hard... > > I'm very frustrated because I want this diet works and I want to > have chance it works! But no support here and it's really very > difficult to be on my own. > > Carolyn > Re: what do you think?/ratio... > > > Carolyn, > I think you mentioned you have the diastat, you should give him a > dose > to try and allow his brain to relax, it seems to me when stella is > in > the same pattern as ael, she needs something to just quieten > the > seizures, then the diet can work. > Did you stop the MCT oil?
