Guest guest Posted April 21, 2006 Report Share Posted April 21, 2006 It gets better Beth. We are just entering week two with Phoebe... full term 5 month old. She's been grumpier too, but not all of the time. I find that she's reverting to some of her old habits, regarding the tort. Try not to worry too much. I think that these things are a bit heavy and uncomfy at first, and our babies just aren't sleeping as well and it's more work when they're awake. Phoebe's really coming around, now that she's getting more used to the weight. What kind of helmet is Isaac in? Phoebe's is a STARband, and it's pretty heavy for her. And our little tort babies don't have the neck strength in the first place. I've just been babying her a bit and not making her be in her exersaucer or sitting up for too long. Now that the helmet is protecting her flat spot, I let her lay down as soon as she's tired. Her muscles are already getting stronger and that is making her happier. Try baby massage. Phoebe didn't used to care, but now she LOVES it when I lightly rub her back and neck. Hope some of that helps! It does get better as he gets adjusted to having it on...hard to say how long it will take though. Just be sure he wears it as much as the ortho says to. Is he sleeping okay at night? He wears a Starband and it took a couple of days to get used to, but he did get used to it. My older son also wore a helmet and it never bothered him at all. It really does get better. Today was the first day he spent all day in it and he was actually more like himself. I'm glad to hear that she has reverted to some of her old tort habits, because Isaac is as well. He is rarely looking to the left and fusses if we turn him that way. We have still been doing neck exercises, with the helmet off, and have not been pushing him as far as positioning at this time. Early intervention comes for their weekly visit on Monday and I'm curious for their interpretation. Thanks for the words of encouragement! I'm glad it gets better!!!! He still gets up for 2 night feeds, but he still has catch up growth to do, and actually early intervention told us that he will be hungrier due to the additional weight of the helmet. Today was the first day that he wore it all day and he was almost back to his old self-much more smiley and actually napped well. Hopefully things are starting to get better!!!! Thanks! Isaac just wore the helmet for the entire day today and he was MUCH better-finally he seemed more like himself!! How is doing now? I hope all is well. Teething, dressed too warm, general sickness. Sometimes it just takes a bit to get used to the band, specially with tort. It's hard work to hold up your head when your strenght isn't that good to begin with.
