Guest guest
I thought I posted my message but I guess it didn't go thru. So here goes, again... I have done my Psych Eval & saw the Nutritionist. I have no clue what is supposed to happen next. My PCM only explained these 2 appointments but didn't mention anything further. Do I call Tricare? Do I go back to PCM? Is someone going to call me? Or am I getting something in the mail? I am clueless, please help!! Thanks again.
Guest guest
The way it worked for me here at -Patt was a referral to the surgery clinic by my pcm, they (surgery clinic) called and set up an appt for a class session with the bariatric surgeon. He then put in the referrals for the rest. As well as set an appt for a one on one with him later this month. So far I have seen the nutritionist but still waiting for the psych clinic to call and set an appt. Maybe you should call your local tricare office or even the surgery clinic and see what the deal is. Misty -- TriCare Question I just finished w/ my Psych Eval & saw the Nutritionist. What is supposed to happen now? My PCM didn't necessarily explain anything further than having to do these 2 appointments. And it took her a lifetime just to FINALLY put in those consults (refferals)!!! I had to make several appointments & make numerous phone calls to her, for her to finally put the consults thru. Should I have gotten some kind of paperwork from the Psych or Nutritionist? Or is someone going to call me? Or do I call Tricare? I'm clueless...please help!!! Thanks in advance!! Guest guest
Lala, I've heard it works differently for many individuals depending on the region you live in. My PCM first made a referral to a surgeon for the gastric bypass surgery when I told her I was interested in the surgery. Since there was no military Tricare provider in the region, I was referred out to a civilian surgeon, who accepted Tricare insurance, by Healthnet . I met with the surgeon and then after he agreed that I was a good candidate for the surgery, his staff gave me a checklist of tests and appointments I would need to complete. Once I completed all of the tests, I had to submit the paperwork to the surgeon's office so they could prepare the paperwork for insurance approval. Because I was having many of the tests done at the Naval Hospital, my PCM had to order many of the tests before the Laboratory, Gastroenterologist, etc. would perform any of the tests my surgeon required. Once I was approved for the surgery by insurance, my surgeon ordered additional tests that I was able to have completed at the hospital where my surgery was being performed instead of having to have my PCM order the tests to be performed at a Naval Hospital. My advise to you at this point is to get a hold of copies of the results of your Pysch and Nutritionist evaluations because military medicine is known for losing paperwork. I would call Tricare and ask if you have a surgery referral for gastric bypass or whatever surgery you're having done. If they do not have a referral, call your PCM and tell them that one needs to be ordered so that you may proceed. Once you have a referral to a surgeon, you can make an appointment with them and gain further instructions on how you should proceed. I know the process will be different from mine if your surgeon will be a military Tricare provider. Hope that helps! in Virginia 299/218/150 Lap RNY: 5/3/06 TriCare Question I just finished w/ my Psych Eval & saw the Nutritionist. What is supposed to happen now? Guest guest
They will send their reports to your surgeon and or your PCP and then if you need to have any other evals they will let you know. I you feel they are not moving fast enough call them and ask what your next move is. (Illinois) Lala wrote: I thought I posted my message but I guess it didn't go thru. So here goes, again... Guest guest
Thank you Racheal & for taking the time to answer my post. I am hoping I will not need to go back to the PCM for my Surgeon Refferal. She's a big time slacker!! I had to practically hound her to put my refferrals thru, for the Psych Eval & Nutritionist. She kept saying she would put them in, but when I'd call days later to check, they said she hadn't put anything in. I did get a copy of the Psych Eval report. As for my appointment w/ the Nutritionist...well I don't even remember seeing her writing anything down. And all she gave me was a book on WLS & how my Post-Op diet will be like. I will call Tricare on Monday to check w/ them (and hopefully I'll get someone who actually knows what they're talking about) & just in case, I'll make an appointment w/ the PCM. Thanks for the advice!!!

Guest guest
Thanks Misty. I plan on making the calls on Monday. I just hate being a " bug-a-boo " . But, if that's what it takes for me to get this done, then I'm game. Thanks again!!
