Guest guest
Helen, I think Byetta does increase the amount of insulin that the pancreas produces. I got this from http://www.byetta.com/hcp/200_incretin_mimetic.jsp?reqNavId=2 BYETTA enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion from beta cells: * Enhances insulin secretion only in the presence of hyperglycemia * Insulin secretion decreases as blood glucose approaches normal And this from: http://www.byetta.com/hcp/100_type_2_diabetes.jsp?reqNavId=1 What are incretin mimetics? Incretin mimetics represent a new class of agents for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. An incretin mimetic works to mimic the enhancement of glucose-dependent insulin secretion and several other glucoregulatory actions of naturally occurring incretins. And this from: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0922/is_12_53/ai_n8574664 The incretin effect is defined as the increased stimulation of insulin secretion elicited by oral as compared with intravenous administration of glucose under similar plasma glucose levels. You mentioned weight loss. My Endo told me that the sales rep told her that five pounds would be a lot of weight loss from Byetta. > It is called an incretin hormone and works in the gut during the process > of digestion. My doc started me with the 5 mcg dose to see how I tolerated it and to minimize the side effects <nausea>. I did well on it and she immediately moved me to the recommended dose of 10 mcg. My A1c when down a few points in the first 30 days! I can't wait to see my 3 month results. I am very pleased with this new drug. I have lost 5 pounds so far. I am not constantly hungry anymore. Just keeping my fingers crossed that it continues to work. Kat

Guest guest
> Hi Kat, I am going to start on byetta this weekend. My doc said that way I could judge the nausea (if I get it) better than trying it before work. So you really like it? I am hoping it will be good for me. My doc said to test 2 hrs after eating before I start it and then I will have a better idea of how it is working. The doc and the nutritionist are very excited about the possiblities. Will let you know how it works for me. Thanks for the info. My BS is good 2 hours after eating but seems to go up a little before my next meal. My doc said to not worry about it and just go by what my A1c says. As far as the nausea goes, I feel nauseated in the morning after I inject but have found that if I eat something right away I don't get that feeling. So my routine is to get up, inject, then eat toast immediately. It doesn't bother me with the evening injection. I have lost 5 pounds and kept it off without really trying.... I really have never had anything that made me nausous but you never know so I think I'll start with Friday night dose and see how it goes. Just dont want to start it when I have to go to work until I see how it affects me. The nutritionist was really excited about this stuff. I hope it does what its suppose to. Wish me luck. > >
