Guest guest
I didn't know if you could use it just for the one headache at a time or like Sandy said. I understand having to use it at the start of the headache. I usually see spots before getting a migraine and if I take something then I can stop the headache. Otherwise I have to go home to bed. Darlene Re: natural cold remedies Sandy, The cayenne in the ACV is only about 1/4 tsp, just enough to get the " hot " through your throat to clear out the congestion. The honey is supposed to soothe it, I think. A friend told me to use pure Maple Syrup instead, because it is supposed to be the most natural, I think, but I think that the diabetes association and the medical community are against that, too. But I think that the liquid cold medicine also has sugar in it for taste, so how much better can it be? I don't know about the headaches except maybe FeverFew. There are some people who use the essential oils of Peppermint, Lavender, or a mixture called Clarity and rub just a few drops on their temples. Darlene > > That is a good question Darlene - I too would like to know natural remedies for diabetics. Many people take the AC Vinegar to help lower BS so that should be fine as well as cayenne pepper. (yuck though on that concoction!!) lol > > What about for headaches? anyone? I have headaches and have noticed them more frequent shortly after I excercise now. Yesterday I had the worse migraine I have ever had. I took Advil and aspirin but it didn't help. > Diabetes homepage: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/diabetes/<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/diabetes/> To unsubscribe to this group, send an email to: diabetes-unsubscribe Hope you come back soon! Guest guest
Thanks, . I haven't heard of that herbal tea, but will try to look for it. I think I have one that was listed for sore throats or colds. Just have too many teas to remember right now. I do have the peppermint essential oil. Darlene natural cold remedies Does anyone use natural cold remedies for things like sinus congestion? I know that the one I have used and had very good success with has to be modified because it contains honey (though you only use 1 tsp of the mixture at a time, but is there anything wrong with apple cider vinegar and cayenne pepper? I would guess maybe some stevia or Splenda would be needed to cut the vinegar a little. The diabetic nurse says to use Robitussin instead, but the Practitioner said not to use any over the counter liquids. I don't know why they are so completely against anything that isn't a drug. Guest guest
Darlene, I began taking beta glucan recently, along with vit C, folinic acid, B-12 and vit E to boost my immune system, I've been chronicly ill with respiratory infections for the last year. So far so good, but I would suggest researching each of these, as I'm not giving medical advice. Also, many suggested olive leaf extract as a good natural supp for colds/flu. Have you tried getting some camphor & peppermint oils for a vaporizer? Maybe some sugar-free peppermint candies? I'm more into natural maintainence than active infection, so this might not help. As to why they are completely against anything, I think (personal op here) that they fear drug interactions and depend on the drug companies to provide the info for them, and there are some herbs, supps, etc that can interfere with medications with potentially fatal consequences, like vit K while taking blood thinners. At the same time, I think it's also more likely ignorance of not understanding natural medicine. After being chronicly ill I was taking my nutrition class & researching b-12/folinic acid for my daughter with autism. Turns out metformin lowers folate levels in the body. Has anyone's doc ever told them they might need to consider a folate supplement, much less tested for folate levels? Not only if you take metformin, but anti-convulsants, methotrexate, a diuretic and sedatives. http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/folate.asp#ref The website above also discusses how lack of folate might increase blood levels of homocysteine, which has been associated with heart disease. Heart disease isn't a small issue for those of use with diabetes. This site is part of the NIH, so it's not some obsure nut site.
