Guest guest
Does anyone use natural cold remedies for things like sinus congestion? I know that the one I have used and had very good success with has to be modified because it contains honey (though you only use 1 tsp of the mixture at a time, but is there anything wrong with apple cider vinegar and cayenne pepper? I would guess maybe some stevia or Splenda would be needed to cut the vinegar a little. The diabetic nurse says to use Robitussin instead, but the Practitioner said not to use any over the counter liquids. I don't know why they are so completely against anything that isn't a drug. Guest guest
That is a good question Darlene - I too would like to know natural remedies for diabetics. Many people take the AC Vinegar to help lower BS so that should be fine as well as cayenne pepper. (yuck though on that concoction!!) lol What about for headaches? anyone? I have headaches and have noticed them more frequent shortly after I excercise now. Yesterday I had the worse migraine I have ever had. I took Advil and aspirin but it didn't help. Guest guest
Sandy, The cayenne in the ACV is only about 1/4 tsp, just enough to get the " hot " through your throat to clear out the congestion. The honey is supposed to soothe it, I think. A friend told me to use pure Maple Syrup instead, because it is supposed to be the most natural, I think, but I think that the diabetes association and the medical community are against that, too. But I think that the liquid cold medicine also has sugar in it for taste, so how much better can it be? I don't know about the headaches except maybe FeverFew. There are some people who use the essential oils of Peppermint, Lavender, or a mixture called Clarity and rub just a few drops on their temples. Guest guest
I use Echunachia (sp?) when I start feeling like I have a Sore throat or Cold coming on, and it does wonders... That is about the only one I really use though. ~~TINA~~ -- natural cold remedies Does anyone use natural cold remedies for things like sinus congestion? Guest guest
Feverfew is more for Migraines though, and it does help as I have tried it. I just have to remember to use it at the Start of a headache though or then I have to take something stronger still. ~~TINA~~ -- Re: natural cold remedies Sandy, The cayenne in the ACV is only about 1/4 tsp, just enough to get the " hot " through your throat to clear out the congestion. Guest guest
Hi Darlene, Well I'll have to remember the vinegar/cayenne combo - just sounds so odd! Yeah, I don't think maple syrup would be the way to go for diabetics, however, I did get some sugar free maple syrup. Just isn't the same. My family makes homemade maple syrup every year - you have no idea how disappointing this is now that I am diabetic! ( I have heard of feverfew but I think you have to take that daily for a while to have it be of any benefit for headaches. Guest guest
Hi Darlene, Its that the cough syrups etc. are so high in sugar, although I believe I saw one recently that was sugar free. What I take for a cold is a cup of herb tea, the herb being Mullein. If you take it when you first have the " I think I am getting a cold " sign, you wont actually develop the cold. For a sinus infection , add a drop of two of peppermint esssential oil to the tea, and inhale it until the tea cools down, then drink it. Guest guest
I didn't know if you could use it just for the one headache at a time or like Sandy said. I understand having to use it at the start of the headache. I usually see spots before getting a migraine and if I take something then I can stop the headache. Otherwise I have to go home to bed.
