Guest guest
Hi all, we just got back from the hospital yesterday. Kristan started off with a cold on Thursday and then it developed into pneumonia and an ear infection. Antibiotics were started but her breathing got worse, so we took her to emerg Saturday afternoon and they determined it was bronchial pneumonia, admitted her for 24 hours and now we are using an inhaler with an aerochamber to help clear up her lungs. Poor kid is doing better now. They don't know if it's asthma yet, it does run on my husband's side, but if this happens again when she gets a cold, then it will probably be asthma. This is the last thing she needs on top of the seizures. Even though she is ill and I hadn't checked her ketones for a couple of days as I was just so concerned with keeping her hydrated, the seizures have pretty much stayed away except for a few. I checked her ketones yesterday afternoon and it was at extra large (16) immediately, first time, but today she's back down to moderate (4) and so far so good, no seizures. Her breathing seems to be improving, we use the inhaler every four hours, but sometimes it gets a bit worse. Getting her to take the bottle is a bit of a struggle right now, poor thing is having trouble breathing, how can we expect her to drink anything, but eventually we get it into her. My husband and I and my parents also have caught her cold, but we are all on the mend. Here's hoping the seizures stay away.
