Hi, I highly recommend Cranial Technologies...they are very professional, bands are all they do, experienced, etc. I can't speak about other bands. I didn't do any research...I just went with who our ped. recommended and am glad this is who my ped recommended. My son has had his DOC band for 3 weeks. I am already seeing great improvement with his head! :>) Like Jen said, any band shouldn't hinder development. I am already seeing this to be true...my son never liked rolling from his back to his tummy; however, since having the band he is all over the place. He is continuiing to learn new things everyday. The only tricky thing for us was figuring out clothing especially at night. Now that we have it figured out, my son is back to sleeping 11-12 hours each night. He doesn't mind it off or on. He sometimes pulls at it but I think he is more curious than

anything. I think most babies adapt well to them. If you won't be happy if your child's head stays the same then I would definitely band. I wouldn't have been happy with my son's head shape. We tried repo and stretches (which we still do) and did see some correction but nothing like the correction we are seeing now. My son hated the casting but I figure it is only 10-15 minutes and then its over. He won't remember it. Also, hopefully because his head will be symettrical we'll avoid kids making fun of him for something that we could only correct when he's little, avoid TMJ, headaches, etc. Good luck. Do what you feel is best for your child. AZ 8 month old son, DOC bandJen <ronandjenvelez@...> wrote: Hello. Her asymmetry went from 14mm down to 4mm (cranial vault asymmetry). She also had slight facial asymmetry and ear asymmetry. Her ear asymmetry did improve with the band. It went from 7mm to 1.5mm. Many people see improvement in their baby's facial and ear asymmetry

with a band. There are many different kinds/brands of band. The most important aspect is making sure that the Orthotist treating your baby is experienced. At your Son's age, you would want to use what is considered an "active" band, rather than a "passive" one. An active band actively redirects the growth of the baby's head through the use of holding points and space where the flatter areas are. There is foam that is shaved out as the baby's head grows. The most commonly used active bands are the DOC band, STARband and Hanger Band. The bands should never be painful or hinder any development, like crawling etc. Most babies still continue to develop normally as if the band isn't even there. :)Good luck with your decision and keep us updated.Jen :) (2 1/2 years), tort resolved, Hanger Band Grad (5 years)>> Hey all-> > I'm new to this group, and my son was recently diagnosed with > positional plagiocephaly. Hi ,

Why is it tricky with clothes at night? Is it putting the clothes on over

the helmut? Thanks, Amy

Hi Amy, Sorry, I didn't clarify what I meant. No, it wasn't tricky taking off clothes or putting them on as we would take the helmet off for those things and then put it right back on. I read that light weight sleepers were the way to go so that's what we did the first night (although this particular pair did not have feet). From 12-6am my son was up several times. When I got him out of bed at 6, his legs were ice cold. I think he was too cold. So the next night, I put him in a fleece sleeper (what he had been in prior to banding). He was up several times between 12-3 at which point I changed him into a light weight sleeper...he slept great till 7. I think he got too hot. The next night I tried yet another combination of clothing and it was just right. That combination was a light weight sleeper with feet and a onsie underneath. Now, with that combination of clothes he is back to

sleeping through. Hopefully, that clarifies. 8 month old son, DOC band AZ Amy s <amydan96@...> wrote: Hi ,Why is it tricky with clothes at night? Is it putting the clothes on over the helmut? Thanks for explaining that! I need all the advice on sleep we can get, our son just started sleeping through the night and we are supposed to get the band on in two weeks. I'm hoping things don't change too much as far as his sleeping. My husband wanted me to take off time from work incase we have adjustment issues, but I wasn't able to do that. BTW, my son HATES wearing hats (we live in VA where it's been very cold), so I'm hoping that is not a sign that he will not like the band!

My understanding is your child could NOT have any of these problems or your child could have all of these problems or some. When deciding to band my son I didn't want to risk that he could have these issues due to plagio when I could have fixed it. I suppose he could have those issues even with a symettrical head. My question is always...if this was your child would you...(in this case band). It is a tough decision and you have to figure out what is best for your child. I was going to recommend getting a free eval from CT but I guess that isn't an option. I would think becker or DanMar would give an honest opinion of your son's head but I don't know since we went with CT. Good luck. Theresa <starlight29341@...> wrote: Hi and thank you all for the welcomes and sharing some information with me. I was online yesterday going through a lot of the information found on this board, it got very overwhelming. As I'm sure most of you felt when starting the journey....Right now, my husband and I are still trying to decide what to do. Me, personally, would be ok with his head. It's minor flattening on the right side, and his ear is pushed forward and the forehead slightly. It's the ears that bother us the most. However, we feel it's not something noticable by looking at him straight on...and once he gets hair, the flattening

wouldn't be either. I guess I'm torn because now after doing some looking around, my neurosurgeon did not have much discussion with me. For instance, I have no idea how bad his head is considered. Is it mild? It doesn't seem severe. All I know is he said it's up to us and in his opinion to correct we need a helmet, but he didn't feel a helmet was necessary either in the long run (didn't think it was super noticable). Anyway, I notice a lot of you have figures from your doc's like 15mm! Well, I've got a call into him so hopefully we can discuss more on the phone. Also, does anyone know, is there concrete evidence that if something like this is left untreated that it would cause things like headaches, TMJ etc? I can't find much online, mostly speculation...but of course if it was very likely he'd suffer these if we didn't correct, that would sway us to do it. As for the neck, HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOUR

BABY HAS TORT.? My ped. did recommend neck stretching to get him used to turning the other side...he pretty much sleeps with his head the one way, thus the flattening. But, other than that, I don't know if it's a muscle involved, or if he just favors that side out of habit. As for who we'll go with, we live in MI, so there's not a Cran. Tech in our state. Our doc. recommended Becker or DanMar and I'm leaning towards DanMar. Maybe I'm just scared to take what seems like such a big step....TheresaWarren, MIDJ, 5mo considering banding> >> > Hey all-> > > > I'm new to this group, and my son was recently diagnosed with > > positional plagiocephaly. Amy, I hope your son continues to sleep through and you have a wonderful experience with the DOC band and CT. So far, I have nothing negative to say about our experience. I am SO glad we decided to band our son! We rarely put hats on our son so I don't know if he would HATE them or not. Hopefully, your son won't mind the band eventhough he hates hats. Good luck. I live in the Detroit Metro area and my four month old twins are getting

measured for their Helmets tomorrow morning. Max has moderate (10mm) plagio

and has mild (don't have her number) plagio and mild brachy. Max's

ears don't line up and with his hair coming in it is more difficult to see

the flat area, but I figure since they are young it makes sense to put them

in Helmets now.

Other than correcting their flat spots it will be nice to not worry about

things getting worse and they will be able to use there swings and play mat

while on their backs. and Filippis is where we are going for the

helmet and it will be a Danmar. The decision is really up to you and you

have to do what feels right. Our Pediatrician seemed to think it was fine

but the Cranio Facial Surgeon said the Helmet would correct in three months.

I have aggressively repo'd the last 5 weeks and I haven't seem much

improvement.

Good luck with your decision.

Hi Amy,

My son banded on 2/19/07 hates hats. But thank God he's adjusted well to his DocBand. The only thing he doesn't like is putting in on/off. Besides that, he's fine with it.

Good LUck next week!!!

,

Thanks for explaining that! I need all the advice on sleep we can get, our son just started sleeping through the night and we are supposed to get the band on in two weeks. I'm hoping things don't change too much as far as his sleeping. My husband wanted me to take off time from work incase we have adjustment issues, but I wasn't able to do that. BTW, my son HATES wearing hats (we live in VA where it's been very cold), so I'm hoping that is not a sign that he will not like the band!
