Hi there

Our dietitian is away and something I forgot to ask her. I am quite

careful about the kind of 'sugar-free' products propose to be. Is

sugar-free paracetemol ok for our little ones on keto?

Thanks

Mum to Harry (3) with Myoclonic Astatic Epilepsy ...just started

Hi a

Sweeteners is something I have been researching the last few days. I'm having

difficulty finding out the carb content of these sugar free meds - we've just

gone back

onto Epilim liquid as we wean our drugs and I'm having a hell of a job finding

out how

many carbs each dose would contain. I can calculate calories from the info given

but

not carbs (since calories can be provided in a number of ways as we already

know).

I've just emailed someone at Hopkins to see if they know. I found a link to

a

brilliant page at the Lucile Packard hospital in Cailfornia called " carb content

of meds

info for parents of keto kids " but could not access it, no sir, no how!

Find out whether your paracetamol has sorbitol or something similar in it

(that's what

is in the Epilim liquid) and let me know and I'll keep searching. Sorbitol is

one of

several sugar alcohols, which do contain a certain amount of carbohydrate.

Artificial

sweeteners like saccharin and aspartame do not contain carbohydrates or

calories.

Ben has achieved ketosis easily and is not sensitive to little blips like

forgetting the

whole liquigen content of one meal - what a dopey mother! - or stealing a chink

of

chocolate from the fridge so I doubt we will have a problem with this Epilim but

I'm

jolly well going to find out for my peace of mind.

Speak soon!

Rose Toms - Mum of Ben (9) coming off Epilim slowly but surely and so far so

good....
