We were due for our 3 week adjustment on Thursday but I am going to take her in today instead. Would this probably mean an area of the band is too tight? Guest guest
It doesn’t go away after having the band off. I went to the ortho and she said it’s like having a ring on your finger for a long time and when you take it off there is an indent. She said it would go away after having the band off for 2 weeks when her graduation comes. She said it is fluid distribution and it’s not an indent in her skull and it’s normal. She expanded it so it’s not so tight in that spot. **Note, MY NEW EMAIL ADDRESS IS drantz@...** Deanna Rantz, Sr. Secretary, Human Resources Ventura County Office of Education (805) 383-1913 From: Plagiocephaly [mailto:Plagiocephaly ] On Behalf Of Sent: Wednesday, August 30, 2006 10:40 AM Plagiocephaly Subject: RE: Any responses?? Guest guest
Hi Deanna, We're currently experiencing the same thing you describe ... My (7 month old) son's head seems to 'bulge out' rather noticeably on one side around his ear cut-out. This just recently began to happen. (He's been in his STARband for seven weeks as of today.) We had an adjustment appointment with our ortho yesterday and I pointed it out to him, and said I thought it was probably too tight. He agreed, but then didn't shave any foam right in that location, which I didn't notice until we removed it last night for bath time. But since other areas were shaved, the helmet doesn't seem to be quite as tight there now. He did actually say that it would go away, but didn't elaborate. I wish I would have asked for an explanation. The explanation you got about it being fluid and that it should go away after graduation makes sense. Although, I can't help but worry a little bit about it. I'm going to feel it better tonight to see if it does feel more like fluid. We aren't scheduled to go back to the ortho for three weeks now. Thanks for sharing and let us know if you get any more info. I'll do the same. > > It worries me that nobody else has experienced this... Guest guest
, It doesn’t actually feel like fluid to me, it just feels like an indent and the area around the indent just feels normal. The explanation did make sense but I feel like you do to where I can’t help but worry a little bit. I am just going to keep an eye on it and make sure it’s not getting worse and the band doesn’t feel too tight. Thank you for your feedback. I’m glad I have this group to talk to because this is all new and a little worrisome at times! Let me know if you get any further explanation the next time you go for your adjustment. I’d like to hear what another ortho says about it too… Deanna, daughter Charlene 6 ½ months (Doc Band 8-9-06) Plagio/Tort **Note, MY NEW EMAIL ADDRESS IS drantz@...** Deanna Rantz, Sr. Secretary, Human Resources Ventura County Office of Education (805) 383-1913 From: Plagiocephaly [mailto:Plagiocephaly ] On Behalf Of pagreys Sent: Friday, September 01, 2006 1:02 PM Plagiocephaly Subject: Re: Any responses?? Guest guest
My dd had the marks from her Docband too. (where it opened on the side) They did go away after she stopped wearing the band.) I worried about it too, but all my searching found that it was normal. Keep asking lots of questions throughout the process. They understand that you are just looking out for your child. good luck. Guest guest
We had an appointment at the neurosurgeon's office today to check progress with the helmet. It was extrememly uneventful. Their practice doesn't take measurements, but the assistant who evaluated my son categorized his plagio as 'moderate' now instead of more 'severe' like it was when we started. I'm pleased that we're (slowly) making progress. It's been two months now. Anyway, I asked about the indent on his head around the ear cut-out. And she said it should go away once he stops wearing the helmet, and not to worry. But she also said it's definitely not fluid; it's bone. She also said that his head will still change until he's up to four years old too. Okay ... I'm not going to worry about that area around his ear anymore. I'll just focus all my worrying on his major flat spot now. :-) > > > > It doesn't go away after having the band off.
