Guest guest
FYI for those that don't know this. I just found a special K cereal that has 10 grames of protein in 3/4 cup an dthat does not include milk. It is also low in carb This reminded of a question that I wanted to ask for a long time but just kept forgetting to ask. How can we eat cereal with milk when we aren't allowed to drink and eat at the same time? Donna/NY

Guest guest
The short answer is the world is gray not black and white. Cereal with milk is gray (God I hope not) as is " chunky " /hearty soup (whatever that is right) and chili. Even yogurt, cottage cheese (the whey), refried beans, etc. are all soft and moist to a lesser or greater extent. My surgeon's office said no liquids with calories after three months. No smoothies, no protein shakes, no soups (except hearty/chunky), none of the obvious things like soda, beer, etc. I would think that cereal such as this would be okay. I have had two bowls of this Special K Protein/low carb cereal with milk. It's pretty good stuff. It was only $2.69 a box at Meijer so not a bad deal either. I'm not a huge fan of cold cereal and the milk I buy usually goes bad but hey it's nice to have some variety. I'll ask my dietician at my next appointment or maybe I'll send her an email but I can't see this cereal with milk being an issue. A great deal of the Healthy Choice lunches I consume have some sort of sauce and often it's not very viscous. Mike in GR > > FYI for those that don't know this. Guest guest
Speaking of this issue I have wondered about soup (my surgery was at the end of June) and was waiting to ask. Is it a no no? If we eat it is it liquid or solid. Thus far I just eat it with a fork and take the solids out. Thanks- Bonnie

Guest guest
I think the no drinking only applies to non nutritional drinks as you will fill up on them and not get enough nutrition. Milk has great nutritional value. (Illinois) angels9962 wrote: FYI for those that don't know this. Guest guest
I don't believe that's correct. I was told you would NOT fill up on liquid but would absorb the calories. Basically you'd be getting calories but no full feeling so you'd still be hungry and still be able to eat. At least they implied that you wouldn't fill up for as long as you would with solid food. That is why I preach solid food versus shakes. It makes sense to me that solid food would give you the full feeling longer than a shake or other liquid. The full feeling is essential to me. > FYI for those that don't know this. I just found a special K cereal > that has 10 grames of protein in 3/4 cup an dthat does not include > milk. Guest guest
I was told the same thing. And told that I should drink before my meal to begin to feel full, then eat solid food but don't drink anything for 2-3 hours because you will maintain that full feeling with the solid food filling your pouch whereas the liquid would begin to flush the pouch and then you'll get hungry again. Sounds logical to me too. --- Mike wrote: > I don't believe that's correct. I was told you would > NOT fill up on > liquid but would absorb the calories.
