The Orenstein who wrote that book is the director of the cf clinic there, so his advice may carry even more weight with your child's doctor. The book is available to check out at the library in Children's Hospital, also. On the other hand, since you are so close, I can't even imagine why you weren't sent to Pittsburgh Children's for the test to be done right in the first place??? The thing about the sweat test (when done properly) is that the chemical that they put on the arm, coupled with the device, CAUSES the skin in that area to sweat. So it shouldn't matter if she usually sweats on her arm. I *think* that if she sweats on her forehead, that is a good indication that she's old enough to produce enough sweat for the sweat test to be done with accurate results. If your child's doctor isn't interested in sending you to Children's, you might just call the Cystic Fibrosis Center there to see what you need to do to have it done. The number is (412)692-5630. If the people at that number can't answer your questions, then they can direct you to someone who can. (In case you're wondering, I don't have a rolodex of all cf center numbers, that just happens to be the center where I take my son to clinic!) If she is salty tasting on her forehead at the age of 10 weeks, considering the fact that we are not exactly having a heat wave in this part of the country right now, I would say to please not delay in having her retested at a cf center.
