we use activated characoal all the time for help with die off. Our DAN

doctor suggested four times a day during bad times as long as its not within

one

hour of food or supplements. Hard to do. The characoal expels a lot of gas

for Cameron and sometimes helps with spacey and giddiness.

Hi, Tammy -

I have another severely food allergic kid who anaphylaxes, so I sympathize!

We don't do fish, because my son seized while on fish oil (even though he

had benefits). I give him flaxseed oil (I know that flaxseed is not legal,

but hope that the oil is okay), and Neuromins DHA for essential fatty acid

sources. I'm also going to start him on black currant oil someday. We

actually did the Metametrix fatty acid analysis to help. My son was severely

oral motor apraxic before the EFA's. With fish oil, we got great

articulation, but seizures and aggressive and self injurious behaviors.

Stopped the fish oil, and couldn't understand a word he said. Restarted the

above sources of EFA's, and we get the benefits without the negatives. Eggs

are another great source of EFA's, if you can do them (we can't). I would

avoid the EFA enriched eggs if you have trouble with fish or metals. One of

the docs at the Boston DAN (Dr. Buie?) said that the eggs get that way

because they feed the chickens fish, and that the fish source might be heavy

metal contaminated.

Kathy

Thanks Kathy,

That is some great info. You are right, no eggs for

us either. This group is so nice, because if nothing

else you know that you are not the only one with

a child that is allergic to EVERYTHING (Peyton can't

have any legumes either) I am going to check on

the Neuromins DHA, but isn't DHA from fish too?

Peyton is allergic to tuna. I really want him to have some

EFA's , I think it would help his chronic eczema as well.

Anyone else tried the emu oil?

yes we just open the capsule and put them in water and syringe into his

mouth. The funny thing is long ago I thought he'd think it was awful so I was

putting it in tomato sauce which he loves, but then I switched to water and he

did fine. I measure the water first so I know I don't have to give him many

syringes to get it all in. My 19 month old who is also SCD now thinks its

some sort of treat (???!!!) and requests black water. , mom to Cameron and

Hi Tammy,

Besides fish oil and nut goodies (are these okay for him?): Eggs, some

good flax oil (Elaine prefers half the rec. dose if using it), I think

some use borage oil.

The DHA we use (Martek Neuromins) is from algae. My son does fine on it. He

can't do any legumes either (peanuts, soy, peas even!). He started emu oil

topically last week (in the TD-LDN from Coastal), and he has done fine. He

definitely reacts topically to allergens (with rash, itching, up to eye

swelling and hives/wheezing and, of course, behavior) so I feel comfortable

that he is tolerating it okay. He can't tolerate TD soy or DMSO, and I knew

right away. I haven't done emu oil orally - is anyone using it that way?

Someone posted last week or so above using it topically for eczema, I think.

Kathy,

Someone told me about a website called

Laid in Montana, and they said that she

had the purest emu oil. I didn't order due

to the soy in the oil, but the topical is pure.

Go to the website if you want, and the lady

will email you back or call you. I am considering

ordering the topical. They do make gelcaps that

are fda approved, but as I said they have vitamin

E in them which comes from soy.

Thanks for the info. We can't even do topical soy, unfortunately, at least

not at this point. It's amazing what it does to his gut symptoms, and his

attention span goes down the tubes. Itchy, too. Too bad.

Hi Kathy,

I know what you mean, I can't imagine that I could focus

either if I were itchy. I don't think I was clear enough

for you about the emu oil. The topical is pure emu oil,

but the gelcaps have vitamin e (from soy) in them. Let

me know if you use it, I am still considering, it is not at

the top of my most wanted supplements yet, but working

its way up :) I think we should all join forces and create

our own supplement company...LOL

By the way, our children sound so similar, would you mind tellling

me what SCD foods your little boy CAN eat, it might help me

to know what to try next. (I know everyone is different, but I have

read that some people follow the same allergen patterns)

Take Care,

Tammy
