Guest guest
I just got on this board to see if anyone else has had a problem with this issue. I started my daughter on the goat yogurt about 3 weeks ago and the next day she had a problem with fecal incontinence. I continued the yogurt and she didn't experience any more accidental poops but she began and still has problems with urinary incontinence. My daughter has been potty trained for almost 3 years. No shaking though! Any thoughts? Guest guest
Hi Sheila, She was cranky for about the first ten days (as expected). Her language has dropped off now that I think about it. But she otherwise seems to be in a good mood. Oh, and she has only be getting a teaspoon per day. claudia > Hi , > > How much yogurt did you start with? Guest guest
Forgot to mention that her stools have been good, although a little loose at first when starting the yogurt. Her stools were loose when she was GFCF but really took shape (lol) once she started SCD last year. thanks, claudia > Hi , > > How much yogurt did you start with? Guest guest
Hi , > She was cranky for about the first ten days (as expected). Her > language has dropped off now that I think about it. But she otherwise > seems to be in a good mood. > Oh, and she has only be getting a teaspoon per day. > claudia A couple of things: We usually recommend the ASD kids start on 1/8 -1/4 tsp of yogurt. The reason: the the goat yogurt is " teeming " with beneficial bacteria, enzymes etc. this also means that they can go through more die off - which the majority do. Hang on a second while I do the math... There's approx. 3 billion CFU's/mL in every mL of yogurt, so 1 teaspoon has ~15 billion CFU's/mL 1/4 tsp has ~3.75 billion CFU's/mL 1/8 tsp has ~1.875 billion CFU's/mL. Consider directions usually given for probiotic powders, capsules, enzymes etc. You usually are directed to gradually increase the dose. Next thing: At the start of the diet many parents of kids going through die off report increased bed wetting and incontinence. So, it's likely she's going through a burst of die off. To help you can either reduce the amount a little and/or add in some epsom salt baths to lessen the die off load. HTH, Sheila > > > Hi , > > > > How much yogurt did you start with? Guest guest
its important to keep ecoli down in homemade yogurts > > My dd does not have an autism or ASD dx but she is a good candidate > > for SCD (her brother has an AS dx which he has outgrown). > > > > She has many symptoms which I am still trying to figure out how > they > > all fit together. Guest guest
Hi Shiela, So you think this could still be die off? I'm glad to hear as I really, really want her to stay on the yogurt and I decided to stop a couple of days ago bc I thought maybe she just wasn't tolerating it very well. I hadn't realized other people were having the same incontinence issues with their kids and the diet/yogurt. She's had this problem for about three weeks now. any idea how long it will last? geeez, 1/4 teaspoon only! what powerful stuff. btw, after her initial problem with fecal incontinence, I decided to wait a few days after making the yogurt so maybe it wouldn't be as strong. I still hadn't realized that a teaspoon was too much! I lent my btvc book to someone and I can't forget who borrowed it as I could really use the information. thanks! claudia > > > Hi , > > > > > > How much yogurt did you start with? Guest guest
the basic issue is the bacterial popualtion in the yogurt getting too high in ecoli or other unwanted species kefir is particularly bad for this probably has lot to do with how many generations the starter is from the original culutre and will have a lot to do with subtleties of making the yogurt also wether the original cuture has issues i don't know wether you can get it in america but i found the rich eilersen yougurt culture quite good for goats milk, used a portion the packet contents direct each time the gut has an inate immune system to kill bad bacteria, but if the thyroid minerals like iodine, selenium zinc etc are low then the innate immune system will not be able to control the bacteria i have written up on this in my web page 'minerals i take' in the index of http://tinyurl.com/2csa3 > okay, can you give me more information on how to do this?
