If they are not on enzymes, they will have problems gaining weight and be

undernourished. Before my 3 1/2 year old was on enzymes he was not on the

height or weight charts for his age. Now he is in the 90th percentile for

weight and 50th for height. He still has BM's that float occasionally.

pancreatic sufficency

Can anyone tell me if there are different degrees of pancreatic sufficency or

pancreatic insufficency? Will all people who are pancreatic insufficent look

malnurished and be underweight? Will all people who are pancreatic insufficent

go to the bathroom very often and always have BM's that float?

Thanks

Tammy

Deanna,

I believe this is what is happening to h. He is two and has been on

enzymes since birth but now does not need them. The doctor has us weaning

him off to make sure weight doesn't drop.

Hi Tammy,

When was first diagnosed 4 1/2 years ago he was PI but I'm not sure

exactly what happened but now he is PS and doesn't receive any enzymes.

----Is there anyone else out there that this has happened to???

Take care,

Hi Tammy

As with most elements of cf, every person with cf responds

differently to their body's physiological make-up, dependent of their

other characteristics. I, for example have no virtually no

pancreatic function, yet I am fortunate in that I have never had an

issue with malnutrition/maintaining my weight. However, on the other

hand, I have SO many problems with my digestive system, ie. pain,

bloating, constipation, diarea (sorry...spelt wrong, I know!)

I think this is happening to my almost 15 year old daughter. She says she

feels better if she doesn't take them. I am a bit confused about this

myself!

My sister was the same way. They say something about the time they are

going through puberty, this happens. Don't know if they are related, but it

is in their teens that this can happen, and did with my sister. Melinda
