Thanks for the post. I also dreaded telling my Mom. She is 75, ill (diabetes and asthma, both very severe) and she worries a lot. I just thought she would go nuts at the idea. In fact, I planned on telling her the night before or after surgery. I was with her one day, and just decided to tell her. I started out with the " I am considering... " I approached her like I would a difficult PCP. I knew she wouldn't read the materials, so I spoon fed them to her. You know, even if I COULD lose the weight myself, there is a 98% chance I will regain it...without this surgery. " She surprised me. She thought it was WONDERFUL and told me if insurance didn't pay, she would help pay for it! So, your dad may surprise you. Over the weekend I told her about . She told me how sorry she was to hear that someone had died, especially someone we were all so close to, but that it didn't apply to me! Once again, I was stunned. She said, " You will do fine. " So, I think they worry about our obesity much more than we can imagine! Good luck and keep me posted!
