Guest guest
bulging over the ears is sometimes associated with brachy (flat in back). The head gets wider with brachy since it isn't growing in the back. this causes the bulging above the ears. You may still want to see the doctor to confirm what this is, also you mention plagio but not brachy for your baby. I haven't heard about the bulging with plagio but it may be the case too (our daughter just has brachy). Since you're not seeing much improvement with the repo I would go ahead and band as soon as possible. It depends on your childs age and if they are growing, but we saw improvement within 2 weeks. Guest guest
My son DJ has plagio/brachy. He has the same bulging above the ears that you describe. Yesterday he was casted for a DOCBand at CT Houston. The ortho told me that the bulging will not go away, even with the DOCBand. Some aspects of the " deformation " are correctable and some are not. This, apparently is one of them that is not. We are hoping that with DocBand treatment DJ's skull will fall within the " normal " range. We are not expecting perfection. If your craniofacial doctor is recommending a helmet, this doctor is very forward-thinking. I cannot be a cheerleader for the results of traetment as this point, since we are just beginning the process. But I say get the cranio doc to give you a prescription for the helmet and get on with it! > > > > I joined this group about three weeks ago when my son was first > > diagnosed with mild tort and mild-moderate plagio. Guest guest
Is your son's flatness across the back of his head? The bulging above the ears and the subsequent pushing out of the ears is definitely a symptom of brachy. Many bracy babies have the same ear shape and positin. Guest guest
Actually, its flat on one side and then bulges on the left side in the back, but above his ears on both sides bulge out. This is a new symptom just within the last week. We've been doing so much the last month and a half, got rid of the bouncy seat, got rid of the infant car seat, repositioning in the crib, doing physical therapy, bought a front pack carrier for when we are out so we don't use the stroller, doing tummy time. It's just kind of frustrating when you think your doing all the right things and then a new development pops up like this. We go see a family doctor and I brought my son with me today when I had an appointment, just thought I would ask while we were there. He confirmed above my sons ears have started bulging out but he said this area of medicine is so specialized he would rather we talk directly with the specialist to rule out early sutures closing. I called the specialist twice today but have not had a call back. Thanks to everyone for the feedback, its much appreciated! > > > > I joined this group about three weeks ago when my son was first > > diagnosed with mild tort and mild-moderate plagio. Guest guest
Helly D' If this is plagio and not brachy like you said it is one sided then I would call your doc and have them take a look at it. Better safe than sorry. Let us know what they say. Sandy Willow's Mom > > I joined this group about three weeks ago when my son was first > diagnosed with mild tort and mild-moderate plagio.
