Guest guest
My understanding is that a positive fecal fat means that the person is not obsorbing the fat they take in which isn't good. A negative test result on a fecal fat would mean that there are no problems with the person taking in the fat. Guest guest
Has anyone's child had to do a fecal fat stool sample All I know right now is that the test came positive +1 - I have no idea what that means and the doc is still waiting to find out
Guest guest
We had a negative -1 test result which meant that less than 1 gm of fat was found in the stool. So your result might mean that more than 1gm of fat was found. Was this a 72hr test? These are the ones that they compare fat intake with fat output to get a very clear idea of absorption. Makes for a lovely pail in your fridge! Peace, Jane
Guest guest
negative? Does this have anything to do with CF then? Do we want it to be possitive? > We had a negative -1 test result which meant that less than 1 gm of fat was > found in the stool. So your result might mean that more than 1gm of fat was > found. I am really nervous - we are not gettign answers and we are just waiting for results - I can't stand the waiting - if it's possitive is that a good thing? > We had a negative -1 test result which meant that less than 1 gm of fat was > found in the stool. Guest guest
My son had a fecal fat test done at 3 months and it was " inconclusive. " He was stooling as many as 20 times PER DAY. It took a sweat test to confirm that he had CF - I can't say that I would rely on the fecal fat test. Guest guest
The fecal fat test is not used to diagnose CF. It is used to diagnose fat absorption problems. Lots of different conditions can give +ve fecal fat (ie/ celiac). However, most people with CF will have a positive fecal fat test until they get those enzymes and absorption issues worked out...so a positive test can be an " indication " of CF. About 10% of cf patients do not have difficulty absorbing fat and get -ve results on this test, as is the case with my daughter. Sweat tests and genetic tests are still the primary cf diagnostic tools. Jane
