Guest guest
Hi , Sorry for replying to this so late, but I wanted to as Alyanna sound a lot like my daughter . had no hearing in her left ear we think from birth and initially normal in her right ear. We never aided the left ear as the loss was so bad they also thought that she would never hear speech with any aid. At 6 she started to loose her hearing in the right ear and by nine it was going quickly. It was at that time that the implant center decided it was time to implant her left ear - before all the hearing in her right ear was gone. So ever though she was and sometimes still is a very good hearing aid user in her right ear (understands speech fairly well with her hearing aid) they implanted her left ear. The implant has worked very well even though she had never heard in that ear. Just wanted to pass along that I believe every implant center is different in the requirements for implanting children.
