Guest guest
madison started her hanger helmet at about 9 months and adjusted just fine to it. it was like she didn't even know it was there. she had some rashes along the way and scratches her head a little when we take it off, but besides that it has not been a big deal at all. she has been her same self since the helmet and it has not effected her sleeping patterns. in fact i love the helmet for the cold weather, because it protects her head and it is very cold in new york right now. why is there no one else in this group from new york? where are you guys? candice, NYkdmckm <kdmckm@...> wrote: Hi All,I've recently joined the group, and have posted some questions on band decorating and others, but we just got back from our son's 9 month pediatrician appt and I am so frustrated. We've already had our share of health issues with little (from Von willebrands disease to bad colic to an upcoming surgery in April to him still not sleeping thru the night), and to have our pedi say we're in for a tough ride is so disheartening to me. Guest guest
, Thanks for your message - I am glad to hear about your positive experience. We are actually from CT, and it is certainly cold and snowy right now. We were worried that we would not be able to keep 's head warm (not being able to find a hat to go over the helmet), but I am glad to hear that it keeps Madison's head warm. How long will Madison be wearing her helmet? > Hi All, > > I've recently joined the group, and have posted some questions on > band decorating and others, but we just got back from our son's 9 > month pediatrician appt and I am so frustrated. Guest guest
Honey, I have read and heard horror stories, however, my daughter Alessia is 6 months old, she got her helmet, it was causing quite a bit of redness in a spot, I took her back, they filed it down and she is as happy as could be. Alessia does not seem to notice she is wearing a helmet. She is on StarBand. Don't worry, if there is a problem, it can usually be adjusted.kdmckm <kdmckm@...> wrote: Hi All,I've recently joined the group, and have posted some questions on band decorating and others, but we just got back from our son's 9 month pediatrician appt and I am so frustrated. Guest guest
Our son was 6 asnd 1/2 months old when he started his DOC band for scaphocephalic (long and narrow) shape (he was casted on his 6 month birthday!) -- it had "more" to it than a traditional DOC band, because it needed to give him a slope. At the time, Cranial Technologies was the only company that had a band specifically for scaphocephaly. Although it was 7 years ago (hard to believe!) -- I still do not recall an extensive breaking in period. In fact, those four and 1/2 months FLEW by. We had to travel every two weeks by car from Cincinnati to Chicago for adjustments. Our pediatrician never even saw him during that time, just because it wasn't around the time of his well-child checkups. The neurosurgeon, who gave us the letter of necessity, was a bit negative about it -- but at least allowed us the ability to do so, and his letter of necessity was very good. If I had to do it all over again, I would in a heart beat. Here's a short bio and there is a pix at the bottom of him in his DOC band (remember -- it looks a little different because it doesn't have velcro, it used a different way to put it on.)http://www.cappskids.org/CAPPSPlagioKidQuinn.htmI know it's a hard decision -- but every child is different, and reacts differently, and every parent reacts to these reactions differently. Ultimately it comes down to how you feel about it over all. If you don't band, some things may resolve themselves. In our case, I didn't feel I had an option.... Guest guest
- Don't let his comments get you down. You do what you know is best for your baby. I'm not gonna lie - I remember it being hard in the beginning - but I think it is harder on us parents then the babies. There is the 1st exciment phase where you feel like you are finally helping them - then the frustrated phase, the baby is adjusting and you are tired and just want your babies head back - but if you get over that hump you will find that the 1 hour the baby is not wearing the band you feel like they are naked or missing something. I so becomes apart of everyday life, it is really easy. We are all here to support and help eachother - I know I couldn't have done it with out the help of this board!!! Guest guest
Hi , My son is 7 1/2 months and got the DOC band one week ago. If you are going with Cranial Technologies, they are awesome! My son doesn't mind it at all. He was curious about it and sometimes will touch it but it doesn't seem to bother him. It hasn't affected sleeping (other than us needing to figure out what to have him wear as his temperature is running hotter than his "normal"). Already, one week into the band, I am noticing change and am already convinced that we did the right thing for our baby. I think a lot of it to is how you act about it. Babies pick-up on our frustrations. Good luck, PHX, AZkdmckm <kdmckm@...> wrote: Hi All,I've recently joined the group, and have posted some questions on band decorating and others, but we just got back from our son's 9 month pediatrician appt and I am so frustrated. Guest guest
, That is rather disheartening. In my 3+ years in the plagio world I have learned that a well fitting band/helmet is tolerated well by most infants (~95%). It's the poor fitting bands that the infants dislike. Now there is the odd 5% or so of well fitting bands that infants don't tolerate just because they are extra sensitive types, maybe they have sensory issues or sensitive skin, or are hot natured. I liken it to braces - they can be uncomfortable at times but if your child needs them you would all suffer through for the end result. The best thing to do is decide if band treatment is right for you child and then go into with 100%, meaning follow directions, keep a positive attitude. Sometimes it takes 3 - 7 days for the child to get used to it and if you give in and take it off after a crying spell then they cry harder the next time when you leave it on - does that make sense? Both my girls napped and slept in theirs the first night and every night after. They never noticed. Where are you going? I know their is a Cranial Tech in CT. I've heard good things about it and seen good before and afters. mom to ... na DOC Grad X2 Feb 04 and Kiersten DOC Grad April 06 http://www.thefilyaws.com/plagio/plagio.html > > Hi All, > > > > I've recently joined the group, and have posted some questions on > > band decorating and others, but we just got back from our son's 9 > > month pediatrician appt and I am so frustrated. Guest guest
it definitely protects her head. i would also just put her hood on to cover the opening of the helmet and her ears. candice, nykdmckm <kdmckm@...> wrote: ,Thanks for your message - I am glad to hear about your positive experience.
