Guest guest
Hi Mimi, are you there? I spoke with you last week about my little Vihren age 27 months (my history: 4 year old ASD son doing very well on SCD since 12/03; my 2 year old " NT " son, I gave rice and potatoes daily under pressure of grandma coz he is " so NT " and " so underweigh " and in about 3 months my perfect little (I thought gifted) talkative playful son #2 is so messed up that tomorrow I am taking him to be evaluated for possible Aspergers (long list of red flags) with the addition of 1 week of nuts, my peaceful and easy going little guy became cranky and tantrumy all week but after speaking to Mimi on the phone last week I implemented the intro soup for son #2 yesterday 6/9 Thu today is day 2 of intro soup for whole family (intro chicken soup, puree carrots in broth, chicken, very very very diluted white grape juice Knox gelatin " jello " more aptly termed, " filter water-flavored jello " ) and lo and behold, -Vihren's response is much faster -not so spaced out, this evening -no more echolalia, more original words -eg: feeding stegosaurus with strawberries " put some honey on it " ; " where is baby Elena? She is missing! " -more variety of play instead of fixation on alphabets.. still is, but at least using more varied language -etc etc I feel very hopeful (I have been crying my eyeballs out over my 2 sons the last weeks) and extremely thankful if I have a million bucks, I will give a big chunk to pecanbread moderators for their wisdom and vocation that is not even mentioning the gains my ASD 4 year old is gaining with SCD in short, thank you for your hard work Jzin my credentials and badges of honors: Dimiter, age 4, regressive autism, fully vaccinated (SCD since 12/03; official intro soup since 2/04) Vihren, 27 months, vaccinated till 4 months old, speaking in sentences at 15 months old, GFCF since birth, recently lots of rice and potato...leading to autism red flags Elena, 7 months old...will be SCD!!!! so chubby even though her only diet is mama (95% SCD)'s milk
Guest guest
Hi Jzin, Thank you so much for letting us know about Vihren's progress. I am so thrilled to hear the good news!! Even after several years of participating on SCD lists, the miracle of Dr Haas' diet still astonishes me. Guest guest
Jzin - So sorry about your #2. I read about SCD and breastfeeding your #3... I was SCD with my little one for the first few months and went down to below my pre-pregnancy weight... below my prepuberty weight! Yes, I have a very high matablism and have never been on a diet in my life. This is not good. You should carry 5-10 lbs while breastfeeding. I could not keep up preparing (and eating) the amount of carbs I need (and the amount Nigel needs). I had to go back to GFCFSFSF. Unfortunately, the gut bugs came back (why I was on the SCD to begin with... thrush with the first son... and then with the second son too... both c-sections... which you must have with antibiotics... and like a moron I didn't bring probiotics with me to the hospital). Anyway... chemicals are stored in our fat. You do not want to go through your fat stores. I had no clue I was so thin (as I was pretty stressed and don't own a scale and my husband wouldn't notice if I turned green). My mom came to visit and almost had a cow. I've been trying to gain weight ever since. Depending on your metabolism, SCD and breastfeeding may not mix (unless you have a slave that can prepare vegatables for you all day long). Watch your fat. If you were to add other carbs... I would add sweet potatos and beans first before going all out to the good stuff (quinua and buckwheat... I hope you're laughing... my definition of the good stuff is sooooo different now. I don't think I'll ever see ice cream again). Best of luck - Sally Nigel 3.5 ASD, Philip 8m
Guest guest
I have heard of mothers who have successfully breastfed their child while they were doing SCD. I feel very sad that I did not know about SCD when I was feeding my children mother's milk because I gave birth to multiple ASD kids. " High calorie " SCD foods do exist. I want to remind everyone that olives are SCD legal,if they are plain and do not contain any illegals. Many HFS carry olives without anything added to them. Avocadoes are another high calorie SCD food. I do not need to remind folks about the nuts and their high calorie content. When I first started SCD,I gained a lot of weight with all those foods and have had to do exercises to get back to my former size. Most people normalize their weight with SCD but the experience that Sally and I had show that there are exceptions. I am glad that Sally has shared her experience with our list and brought up the important topic of breastfeeding and SCD. Guest guest
I appreciate you saying this because I am still nursing my one year old. She is eating 3 meals a day in addition so I am not as concerned as I would be if she was an infant. I am trying really hard to eat enough to keep my supply up! I eat a lot of fruit and veggies though (much more than my son).
