Guest guest
Ok... I want to compair CFers with NON-CFers and see what the concensus is. Ok, when you get hot and sweat can you taste the salt on your skin???? Is this with all people or is this a CF thing? Can you taste the salt if it drips into your mouth??? Do all people taste salt in their perspiration???? OR is it a CF thing?I would really like to get some input..... Guest guest
Yes , I can taste salt in my perspiration (and in my husband's), especially on a hot day after being out in the sun for a long time. We don't have CF but are carriers. and yes, I can taste salt if the perspiration drips into my mouth, but I suspect it is not AS salty as it would be if I had CF. My son who is NOT a carrier also says he tastes salt if he licks above his lips when his face is sweaty on a hot day. One son does have CF and tastes much saltier. He does not have to be outside and perspiring to taste salty. If I kiss his forehead, at just about any time, there is a salty 'aftertaste'. I pretty much only get it from his forehead - not other places on his face. My other 2 without CF do not have the salty aftertaste. This is one reason I pursued his diagnosis for CF when he was a baby. If my son who has CF has been perspiring, it actually can leave little salt crystals on his skin. When he was a baby, my husband called him " a little gem " because of the sparkles from the crystals. When his feet perspire, these salt crystals are quite irritating and can actually rub his skin raw on his feet. It seems that when the sweat can't escape from the skin of the feet fast enough, it collects under the skin like blisters and then the skin eventually peels off. I read a brochure on CF sexuality that mentioned that the salt can also occur on the penis and be irritating during intercourse for both partners, but the use of a condom can be helpful in that situation. Guest guest
Becki, I can taste salt in my tears and in my sweat when I am running and I do not have CF. I guess CF just has more salt in it. Guest guest
Becky, I don't think there is one clear answer....most people probably don't taste their sweat!!!!!! Sounds like a good science fair project, though, lol!!! Anyway, I can tell you that our 7 yo without CF gets very salty when he sweats alot.....and I assume that probably we are all that way (just don't go around licking to be sure, eh?) The difference I guess is that the kids with cf are salty all the time. Take care, Jen > Ok... > I want to compair CFers with NON-CFers and see what the concensus is. > Ok, when you get hot and sweat can you taste the salt on your skin???? Guest guest
Jackie, We had a lady doctor from Scotland working in our clinic for about 6months or so. She said in the UK they dont use salt replacement so she had lots of questions on it. Were here we use it for 6months of the year or more. Maybe she meant' Scotland, my sister and brother in laws live there and I know they are freezing.
