Hi I'm Ben's Mum. Has anyone on the keto or MCT diet seen a rash appear around

the

child's mouth? I wondered whether it was some sort of sensitivity to the

liquigen -

our dietician suggests a reaction to the ketones. We're off to see the doctor

today as

it's been steadily getting worse and worse. Any ideas please let me know

gets this now and then, not from MCT as we don't use it, but this

is more since he started cycling and having periods of acidosis over the

past few months. Sort of like everything in him going acidic, including

saliva. He doesn't drool, (since ditching the benzos...) this applies more

if he say licks his lips too often or something like that, leaving traces of

saliva.

Otherwise he gets a rash if he has had a food that is spicier than usual,

like these grain waves (like chips) he had for a few days last week - they

had the sour cream and cheese flavoring coated on, and he reacted with a

sort of rash to these.

So maybe Ben is either poss too acidic, or a sensitivity of some sort ot

the MCT The coconut base in it maybe, if this is what is in liquigen?

I (reluctantly....) apply low dose cortisone/antibiotic (fucicort) cream

if 's rash gets too inflamed, with a barrier cream over the top until

it clears up. When he has got it going on, anything, and I mean anything,

aggravates it, especially oily keto ice creams etc.

Hi

Thanks for your thoughts. We've just got back from the doctor and they have

given us

some fucidin antibiotic cream (contains fusidic acid - sounds like your cream),

and

have recommended using an emollient in between.

She talked about some sort of hydrocortisone but says it's not too good on the

face

as it thins the skin!!! So we'll see if we can rid of it. I'll let you know.

Acidity in the

saliva sounds a likely culprit especially since the rash is only round the

mouth.

Rose - Mum of Ben 9 - in ketosis since March 04 and doing well

My daughter gets it all the time. I think that saliva gets strong on the

diet. We apply a topical cream (fungicide maybe) and sometimes a barrier

cream.
