Guest guest
Hi Ann, my daughter Kristan has MCT oil added into her bottles/meals and we have been on it since January 2004. She was put on it to help raise her ketones, but it hasn't done that, it does however help with her bowel movements so we are sticking with it for that reason. I don't know of any pros and cons. Kristan still has seizures and it varies from 1-2 a day for the last month and a half and the past few weeks have been bad, 20 a day. It's all so hard to figure out. Good luck with the MCT oil if you try it. Satnam, mom to Kristan, 19 months Keto kid since August 2003 > My son, , has been on the diet since 1/27/04. Guest guest
My son Mike has been on the MCT/cream version of the diet for 3 years. He gets 58gms of MCT oil per day (just upped it to 61gms today). Mike too had high ketones at night and they were very low by morning. I did some research on diabetics and came up with something called " Dawn Phenomenon " (sp?) Anyway, I did a bunch of different things - adding extra oil at bedtime (didnt work) adding oil during the nite (didnt work) added a snack at bedtime - this seemed to work for a while, but now we dont do anything and Mike's ketones are lower in the am than they are when he goes to sleep, but they arent really low like they used to be - guess his metabolism compensated for the ketone drop and worked itself out. I know that in the 'classical' diet, MCT is used to boost ketones, and I do know that it burns 'hotter and faster' than other oils. Mike is allowed to have bread and pasta at each meal being on the MCT/cream diet, and his ketones remain high. He gets MCT with each meal, and also three times a day between meals. Not sure I have been of any help, if you have any specific questions I will try my best to answer them. Jenn Information on MCT oil My son, , has been on the diet since 1/27/04.
