Guest guest
My 2.9 yr son was recently diagnosed with autism. Now, my 13 month old daughter is due to have the MMR at 12 months. I've postponed it because I'm so afraid of the same thing happening to her. I've asked my pediatrician to administer each vaccine separately, months apart. (measles at 12-15 mths, mumps at 18-21 mths, and rubella at 24-27 mths.) The pediatrician said it is possible to purchase them individually, but they come in a quantity of 10, and since I'm the only one with this request, I would have to pay entire order as it is not cost effective for their office. Each shot is approx $200. Therefore this option is out of the question. Is there anyone in the So. California area that has a pedicatrician that will only charge for the 3 shots and not the entire order? Is there anyone that can offer advice on vaccine decisions after having a child diganosed with ASD. I understand that vaccines need to be given at certain ages, so time is of the essence. I need to make a decision soon. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Tony

" Tony, I'm sorry to say that I don't have any CA info for you, but it seems to me that this is still too close together based on what I remember Dr. Wakefield saying at Autism One. Maybe you can go to their website and see if you can access his information yet. http://www.autismone.org It seems to me that his recommendation was something like 2 years, 3 1/2 years and 5 years or something. More than a year separating each injection. Maybe you could find a few more people interested in the separated shots and split the cost of 10 between even 4 people. That would make it just $50 per person. At least more affordable than $200. Jody mom to -6 and -8 SCD 28 months
Guest guest
Dr. Cave talked at the Boston DAN conference, and wrote a book called " What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children's Vaccinations " . You can buy the book for $5.50 from NAA. She recommends (in the book) that the MMR be administered in separate vaccinations, with measles first at 15 months, followed by rubella 12 months later, followed by mumps 12 months after rubella. She gives a lot of other advice about how the child should be well, no antibiotics, use some supplements to protect, etc. You could probably listen to her presentation at the Boston DAN for free on the webcast at the ARI (Autism Research Institute) website. Dr. Wakefield's presentation is on there as well. I think that Hopewell Pharmacy sells the individual component vaccines for free, but I don't know how much they cost - you could call and ask at (800)792-6670. Vaccines do not " have " to be given at certain ages. The schedule is there to protect the community at large. A lot of your decision depends on your individual family circumstances. Is she in daycare? That will increase her risk. Is she completely neurotypical? I'd be worried about giving her further vaccinations if you were unsure about that answer. Has she gotten thimerosal in previous vaccines? That could predispose her to an adverse reaction to the MMR, because she has the same parents as your child with autism. I have heard of people waiting to vaccinate siblings until they were past the autism diagnosis age - around 3 years old. It is a decision your family will have to make, and is not an easy one. Guest guest
Hopewell Pharmacy in NJ sells MMR vaccines separated. They were at the DAN conference and advertised it. I don't know if you have to buy more than more set. I have a 3.5 year old with autism and a 18 month old who is developing fine, but has intestinal issues. We just started SCD this week. We've been cautious with her immunizations, at first giving two at a time. Then I got scared and its been a year since I've given her any because of her stomach issues. Cave wrote a book about immunizations that's fantastic. What your doctor may not told you about immunizations. She gives a suggested time line if you want to do all the shots and comply with state regulations. For my son with ASD I regretfully gave all of his shots except MMR (thank god) on schedule. Cave's basic suggestion is to give one shot at a time at least one month apart when the child is 100% well. Give Vitamin C and Cod liver Oil two to three days before and following shot. Guest guest
I'm not sure exactly what I would do if I had another child except I know this. In China, the children don't get any vaccines until they are 2 years old and they have the lowest infant disease and mortality rate than any other country in the world. They stopped putting the thimerasol in their vaccines also. I know it is a communist country and not everything can be good but, I believe this is the way to go. I know my daughter was given a vaccine in the heel as soon as she was born and I had a bacterial infection the last month of my pregnancy and was on an antibiotic. She never had a chance. She was low immune already when she was born and her temp. dropped low and she had to be in an incubator all night and was fed sugar water for that length of time. She seemed to be ok but, at 3 weeks old she was hospitalized for having a terrible cold. Although the Dr. didn't know what was wrong with her. I was breastfeeding every hour and a half. She also has 4 shots at once at about 1. Thinking this was the protocol and the dr. knew what he was doing, I allowed it. She was diagnosed with Autism on her 3rd birthday and she will be 5 and still cannot talk. I pitty any Dr. that my next child will have, if I chose to have another one, because I will be calling the " shots " ! Vaccine HELP in So. Calif. > My 2.9 yr son was recently diagnosed with autism. Guest guest
i have seen posts by parents whose kids regressed on single vaccines bitterly regretting getting any vaccines at all unfortunately they use the most vicious of the measles variants in the measles vaccine basically a lot of these kids cannot handle any vaccine i would think there are basic immune tests that can be done that would give a clear indication of the childs susceptibility to vaccine damage www.danasview.net has info of getting vaccine exemptions in california always with kids the later the vaccine the better, their immune systems start to become more adult like from about three on, but six is a more robust date BUT A LOT OF THESE KIDS CANNOT HANDLE ANY VACCINE > " administer each vaccine separately, months apart. Guest guest
I also read Cave's book and highly recommend it. She explains what the vaccinations are for and which ones are necessary for your child's health, rather than public health concerns. I have a four year old with autism that had all of his immunizations at the regularly scheduled times and suffered a bad reaction after his MMR shot. I also have a 22 month old daughter who is developing beautifully who has had very few shots. We chose to only give her one shot at a time and only vaccines that were necessary to her health. We also waited until she was four months old to give her her first shot. She has never been in day care so we felt okay about waiting. I will never give her hep B. She can choose to have that one when she is an adolescent and enters a higher risk group. Our pediatrician is not really in agreement with my decision, but when I demonstrate my knowledge about vaccines and vaccine safety, it appears as if I know more about it than she does and she backs down. I have never regretted my decision and wish I had educated myself when my son was a baby. > Hopewell Pharmacy in NJ sells MMR vaccines separated. Guest guest
This is a little off topic, but I have a 6.5 month old due for her shots. She is due for her 6 months shots (called too late to get her in on time :-( My husband and I have been debating whether or not to continue with her shots. She did fine with the first 2 series and may do fine with the rest????? My son (currently on the diet for severe chronic yeast due to antibiotics) completed his shots with out any problems. Me on the other hand did well with all but the MMR (this was 26 years ago) Before the shot, I was walking and saying short sentences. After the shot I could not hold my head up for 1 week, did not walk again until 2 weeks, and stopped talking for 3 weeks. My mom said " it was like you were not there. " Not knowing about this, I got my second MMR in college (required to stay in the dorms) and not quite as bad but still took me out for 3 weeks. Is there a web site that recommends when it is safe to give the shots and which ones? Guest guest
did she really do fine with the first series? the trouble with children is they are so up and down with their developement that you have to look over six months or longer to gain an idea of effect............. i have written up some thoughts http://members.tripod.com/mueller_ranges/links/vaccines.html my sister vaccinated her children before 1 year, they are on autistic spectrum, her sister in law never vaccinated her chidlren at all and now as teens they shine out as so much healthier than thier peers its unreal.............. you have to make your onw decisons and if you think the medical establishment knows what it is on about do a search on 'simpsonwood' and mercury all vaccine damage is irreversiable and imo elaines daughter would never had recovered had she been vaccinated the way they do now > > > My 2.9 yr son was recently diagnosed with autism. Guest guest
I am waiting until my son is at least 2 years old before I start any immunizations. His 2 1/2 year old brother has ASD and I am almost positive it is related to his 12 month round of immunizations. When I do start I will do no more than one at a time...and I will wait a long...long time on the MMR...which will be separated.
