My kinda derm ....

I like my dermatologist. I really do. And I had quite a surprise

for her today.

" Say, the minocycline appears to be working quite well. "

" Yes, it is, much better than the cephalexin did. "

" Are you still using the Metrogel and Klaron twice daily? "

" No, I quit using those about a month ago. "

" Huh? "

" The seb derm is killing me. Here's what I'd like to try, instead:

I'd like to switch to Noritate, but I'd like to compound it with 2%

ketoconozole and, while we're at it, let's throw in 5 - 10%

micronized zinc oxide -- that'll save me the trouble of applying a

sunscreen separately. "

Her response? " You're the boss! "

This is why I like my dermatologist. And this is especially why I

like this group.

Oooh, but this is going to be one expensive topical -- about $80 for

4 oz., and the compounding pharmacy won't run it through my insurance

carrier. Instead, it's up to me to submit the claim.

Why wont they run it thru the ins?? Count your blessings on your derm. Mine

tried minocycline and noritate and after little change from either smugly

said " sorry, there's nothing more I can do for you " It wasn't til finding

this group that I understood that just because one antibiotic or topical

doesn't work, another might. I feel like writing him a letter >=(

I know it's not always possible to find different Derms, depending on

your insurance program, but it's important to find a Derm who will

work with you. If one seems uninformed about cea or unwilling to

let you try different things you learn from this group, I sure hope

you look for another one. What a difference it makes. I see three

different Derms for different reasons. One because she understands

how difficult cea is to treat and she is open to all my

suggestions from this group and will write prescriptions for what I

want to try. Another is for the collagen treatments she offers and

her prices, and the third one is for the Laser treatments they

offer. It can take some work to locate the right Derms but it is

very much worth the effort.
