Guest guest
Our daughter can't have dairy. She detests the taste of powdered calcium, and she can taste it if I hide it in things. How do I make sure she's getting enough calcium? I don't want to flavor it because she reacts to so many flavors, and she won't even drink it in juice. Thanks. Guest guest
vitamin d , magnesium and other minerals are as important for bone strength as calcium > Our daughter can't have dairy. Guest guest
I believe liquid calcium is also available. Check Kirkman's site. It may not be SCD legal though. dana > Our daughter can't have dairy. She detests the taste of powdered > calcium, and she can taste it if I hide it in things. Guest guest
When I asked our DAN doc about calcium, she said that most Americans aren't deficient in calcium intake but that they have a deficiency in magnesium which keeps them from absorbing the calcium that they do take in. She said I could supplement with calcium if I wanted to, but she sounded like I could do it to make me feel better not that he might really need it. She didn't say that, but it was the impression I got. If your child is eating almonds and/or dark green veggies, she is probably getting the calcium she needs. > Our daughter can't have dairy. Guest guest
- My kids were on Calcium Carbonate oral liquid suspension by Roxane labs. I ordered it thru the pharmacy-it was recommended by our allergist. You do get calcium from other sources, but you need to eat a lot of green leafies, etc. to get your daily dose. I would see how your daughter reacted to it, or just try plain tums-1 and see how she reacts. Neither is probably legal, but it may help meet her needs until she is able to tolerate goat or cow cheese. -Suzanne julagiles julagiles@...> wrote: Our daughter can't have dairy. Guest guest
Hi, couldn't let this post go by without putting in my opinion. Hope no one is offended. I would never choose tums for my or anyones calcium source for 3 reasons(probably not legal anyway on scd): first, they have aluminum in them, so best to steer clear, second, calcium is best absorbed in an acidic environment. Taking tums(an anti-acid), makes your gut less acidic, so you will never absorb the calcium from the tums anyway. Third, it uses a cheap grade of calcium in the tums, calcium carbonate(chalk), which is the least absorbed. Try to find another source besides tums.
