I know that just a few years ago he was touting his breakthrough surgery of not

opening the dura and taking off a very large piece of the back of the skull.

Now I understand he has switched to the surgery every other neurosurgeon has

been doing for years, which is opening the dura and putting in a patch. I'm

confused as to why such a big deal was made of his previous surgery, and now

he's switched to the surgery everyone else has been doing for years.

Does anyone know the reason for his changing his method of surgery to the

standard one?
