Update from Barb - noon CDT

Ken is much worse today, after yesterday, we honestly thought we were at the

very least slowly moving forward, but we clearly aren't.

His white cell count is 'through the roof', he has a fever even though he is on

24 hour dialysis. His red blood cells are 'blowing themselves up', (he has

received 1 pint of blood this a.m., with orders for 3 more.) His pancreatitis is

much worse, the transplant surgeon I saw this morning *thinks* the pancreas may

be destroying itself. They have ordered a CT scan, if it is eating itself, they

will have to take him back to surgery, remove the dead pancreatic tissue and

wash him out. The surgeon says this may have to be done many times, until it

stops. We'll know if this is the case late this afternoon. Meanwhile he hasn't

slept in days, even though last night he got a double dose of sleeping medicine.

His lungs aren't doing too well either, even though they drained 3 liters of

fluid off of him yesterday. His kidneys haven't improved. Don't know what else

to say...............

This is truly heartbreaking! I simply don't know what else to say.
