Guest guest
Well, Phoebe is getting her Starband on Thursday this week. I'm not worried about the people who will be fitting her, she's able to be treated by the ocupational therapists at Mayo Clinic in Rochester,MN. At least THAT weight is off. :/ Now I'm just worried about how hot my poor little girl is going to get. Does their body temp adjust so that the helmet doesn't make them sweat so much eventually? Is there something you can put on their head under it to help, or do you just take it off to wipe their head down? Has anyone decorated a Starband? The therapist said that they are really hard to decorate because things don't stick to it. Phoebe's is going to be purple with butterflies (that's the way they produce them), so I don't really need to do anything... I just might want to. Thanks everyone! I've been really learning a lot from all of the posts here. *hugs*
Guest guest
They say that the baby adjusts and the sweating gets less and less the longer they are in the band. I think our orthotist said about 4 days it would start to get better. That was true for our son. You can decorate it if you want. It should stick pretty good. Alot of people do. Sometimes it chips though I think. We left our son's white so I don't have any direct experience. I think there is a decorating information sheet in the files section here. Guest guest
Hey ! My son, Maxwell, is a HUGE hot box! We have the DOCband and I had to towl off his head about 3-4 times a day(especially after naps). They said he would adjust in 2-3 days, but it took him about 2 weeks before he stopped sweating as much. Now he's fine. I just want you to be prepared in case the same is true for Phoebe. But just keep towling her head and she will adjust! As far as decorating...there is a folder with good tips for that. We had ours painted(I'm definitely NOT the artsy type!)...good luck! Guest guest
Thanks for the info. Phoebe is a total hotbox too, and I'm worried the the closed head of the STARband is going to be causing meltdown for her. I'll keep a towel close by and not give up!! > > > > Well, Phoebe is getting her Starband on Thursday this week. Guest guest
Hi ! Just a couple of quick things. We also have a STARband and it is easy to decorate. I would suggest putting her name on it with stickers. This seems to make a huge difference when people approach. They can say, " Phoebe... I love that name! She is so cute! " Anyway, the name on the band is a good thing! It seems like the clear plastic stickers work the best. Paper ones are harder to get off and vellum ones don't last very long. But they all work! The STARband is open a bit on top, so there will be some air flow for Phoebe. And, my Sophie sweated like a pig for the first week. It even dripped off the edges of the band!! Just leave her socks off and dress her a bit cooler. She will adjust pretty well. Wipe her down and clean the band regularly. It may start smelling, but that will go away, too!! Good luck. It really isn't that bad! Sophie - STARhelmet 3/15/06 (scapho/plagio) > > > > > > Well, Phoebe is getting her Starband on Thursday this week. Guest guest
Hello Make sure not to overdress her, and maybe keep off the socks or onsies at first till you see how she adjusts to the band as far as temperature goes. I didn't have this issue with my daughter Willow b/c she was banded in the wintertime. Starbands also come in white, but if you want to do stickers, what I found really great on our cranio band from germany is to put mod podge on the band, then the stickers, and then another coat of the mod podge. Let us know how the fitting went today.
