Guest guest
Ok everyone.. I am new at this and full of questions.. My sons case worker for Early Intervention has left... Now I am in limbo and after speaking with the Supervisor it could be a couple months before we are reassigned... We still have not gotten in for our evaluation.. They say this could be another month and then we have to go in front of a medical review panel for final determination which could take another month assuming we have been reassigned... Is this normal??? Whenever I call to ask questions,, I get an answering machine and very rarely get a call back.. HELP!! Also-- thanks to everyone for your help with the Medicaid Waiver,, I will look further.. and Tyler

I think the paper I signed for med. record back then was mostly so the people working with her knew what medical problesm she had. I don't believe what they are putting you through. my eval was done when she was 6 weeks old... my first visit by the incoming manager was at 4 weeks..... when I got made at a case manager they reassigned me within days..... tell them that you will not put up with this... Tyler should be receiving services earlier rather then later... start a log of who you talk to and when.... also document the conversation... if you call everyday, they just might do something cause unfortunately the squeaky wheel sometimes gets the attention ann

Guest guest
So dear, where are you anyhow? There are laws and I wonder if you are where we can get you some help a lot quicker. My daughter had her intake at 10 weeks and we had ECI from that day forward every week until she tansitioned into PPCD at our home school. You need to go on up the ladder so to speak, I learned a long time ago to speak first with the first person who answers the phone, when I don't get satisfaction I request the Head of the Dept., there's no use fooling around with the " dunknows. " In our state the Pedi is supposed to do the referral to the ECI. I cannot imagine what you must be up against. Go get them, you may as well learn to advocate for your child from the get-go, it comes in handy as the days and years go by. :0) God Bless, GW

Guest guest
I do have to say I LOVE little girls about this age in puppy dog ears. They kind of look like the whale spouts but not quite so babyish. There are the TINY little terry bands. We picked theses up for Mia's stocking stuffer. We found them at Dollar Tree 300 count for $1.00 Walmart has the tiny clear elastic type bands, we use the both on Mia. My other 2 girls have LOTS of hair but Mias just isn't there yet, not to mention they shaved a nice size patch from the back of her head Dec 30th when she had surgery. I will try to at least post a pic of my sweet kiddos on the site... Blessings~ ia
Guest guest
I think I will do that. Nate just turned 13 months. I know theres still plenty of time, but hes still sooooo far from walking that I worry about him. His ortho has given him until the end of March before they will do an MRI to find out why. Hes just so off balance. For his scoli to be so minor I didnt expect it to affect him this much. Im seriously beginning to wonder if there isnt something else going on, with his sitting up issues also. He still falls over once in awhile. He sits either on his feet or in a w so he wont fall over. Im not seeing a big progression in his back, though. Hmmmm..... I just dont know. His ped keeps telling me to just wait and see... " hell catch on and just take off running in one day... you'll see " Hes just been trying for sooo long. It would be different if he hadnt been pulling up and walking around things for 7 months now. Gosh thats such a long time!! To me at least. Okay... enough of me for now!!
Guest guest
Hi , refresh my memorie have you had him to a Ped. Neurologist or has he olny had x-rays and thats all. When we went to doctor on our first appt. He asked me to take her to a Ped.Neurologist, and to see a Geniticnt Doc. and see a Ped.eye docand onmy own I took her to see a Ped. Heart Doc. To make sure everything was ok and to see if these were the reasons of her scoliosis they all came out fine. If I were you I would try to get in to see a Ped.Neurologist to see what he says about him falling over and not walking yet. had the same problems she did'nt sit on her own until she was 11 1/2 months old and at times she still fell over she has always sat in a W postion even to this day and I had her in therphy when she was a year old once a week to help start her to walk and stand on her own because she would'nt even stand up most of the time within 1-2months she was walking and did't have to go to therphy then later I started her in Aquatic therphy to help build stronger mussles around the spine they would work her so she moved to build up the mussels to help push her spine in the opsite diecertion oof her curve. I think that help a her maintain her curve along with the brace and theres a pic of her brace on her photos .She just had a 6 month check-up with her ped.doc on Tue and the doc had to measure her 2 times to she if it was right she was 361/2 inches in Aug.2003 and now she's 401/2 inches Feb.2004 she's off the charts in her age group I think the cast had alot to do with her being taller it help straiten her spine so gained a couple of inches from that and than growing while she was in the cast. if you have any questions just let me know if I can help good luck, Bridgette Re: Early Intervention I think I will do that. Guest guest
Nate has only had xrays. Hes been battling an ear infection for a little over a month now, so weve been to his normal Ped every few weeks since his 12 month checkup. Hes watching him very closely to make sure hes not showing any signs of delay, besides the walking. He feels hes progressing normally, and honestly, other than the walking, hes above the norm mentally. He says 5-6 words clearly, can catch and throw a ball, can grasp tiny objects with two fingers, sees and hears very well, LOVES TO READ HIMSELF books!! (I laugh because he seriously turns magazine pages one at a time, looks intently at the words and babbles like hes reading them, then moves his head closer to look at the picture and then turns to the next page. He will sit and do this for HOURS! I use to be a preschool teacher and most kids his age tear up paper books (or eat them!) Hes only just turned 13 months. Im confident in my PED enough right now that he would be frank with me if there were any cause for concerns. He has until the end of March, when he will be almost 15 months, to walk. the average is 9-16 months, so its still within the normal range. The last week of March he gets an MRI and any furthur testing they feel he needs to figure out if theres an underlying issue. I didnt walk until I was 18 months, but I also didnt crawl. (Mom says I was lazy...LOL) and Im perfectly fine. I also dont have scoli though. About the Early Intervention. I did talk to a classmate who has a son in the program here. Shes going to give me contact info for it. I appreciate your help! Im definately going to look into it! Especially if this turns into a bigger issue...walking or the scoli. Guest guest
, When did Nate start to crawl? Was he on time? What about rolling over? was gross Motor delayed and has just now caught up at 3 1/2 years. He still goes to Phys. Therapy and has been going since he was 13 months old. Guest guest
Well....he sounds perfect to me. He actually was early with the crawling, just like . My Dad and brother didn't walk unil they were 18 months old too. I wouldn't worry about the Neuro stuff since he has met all of his milestones on time this far. Guest guest
Nate rolled over around 4 months and crawled at 6 1/2 months. Hes been pulling up to standing since he was 7 months. And " cruising " aroung the furniture since around 7 1/2 months. He sat up unassisted at 7 1/2 months, but still has some balance issues. He can stand for about 30 seconds unassisted if he doesnt know hes doing it. Hes done that twice now. Once I was dressing him on the changing table. While he was standing we distracted him with Chicken Elmo... he thought it was the craziest thing ever... didnt laugh, but just stared at it... I let go of his hand and he just stood there. I had to hold my breath so I wouldnt make a sound and " snap him out of it. " He can walk " okay " while holding one of my fingers, but gets carried away and loses his balance easily. He tries to walk to fast I think. > , > When did Nate start to crawl? Was he on time? Guest guest
Flattening of the head is also related to Scoliosis.
Guest guest
, Does Nate stand flat on his feet when he cruises or walks while holding your hand? If not, his heel cords may be too tight for him to be able to walk flat footed, and may be the cause of his inability to walk yet. My second daughter had heel cords that were too tight. She didn't walk on her feet (unassisted) until she was 18 1/2 months old. When she did, she walked on her tiptoes. We discovered the heel cord tightness when she was evaluated through the Early Intervention Program. She received physical therapy to stretch her heel cords. After a few months of therapy, she started wearing small plastic braces to stretch the heel cords for several hours at a time. She doesn't mind the braces, and you hardly even notice them. Is any part of Nate's head misshappened? No baby has a perfectly round head, but is there anything that is really noticeable? Kaeleigh has a slight flattening on the back of her head, right side. Her physical therapist told us that there is a connection with the misshapened head and the heal cord tightness. It was so long ago, I can't remember much else. Some kids just walk later than others. Nate is still within the norm. Guest guest
For those of you who went through Early Intervention and had them pay for your band, how did that work? I signed all the papers today for to be evaluated through EI, but wasnt sure how to go about doing the band thing. We already have an appt for him for Monday in Rochester, NY for a STARband. Insurance coverage is still pending. Any thoughts on EI and the process would be helpful. Thanks!! Guest guest
I've never heard of EI covering the cost of a band. I've only heard of EI covering the cost of physical therapy if the torticollis is severe enough - i.e., causing developmental delays. I'd be interested in hearing which states do cover the band. Guest guest
My son, , is eligible for Early Intervention due to his physical developmental delays caused by torticollis. His caseworker came to see us last week. She went on vacation this week but she said that she THOUGHT that they covered all out of pocket expenses. We live in the state of South Carolina. had his " cast " made yesterday at CT in Charlotte, NC. We had to pay a deductible but my medical insurance is supposed to pick up the rest. I am waiting to hear back from her next week regarding the PT and out of pocket expenses. 2/7/06 DOC Band coming soon! > > For those of you who went through Early Intervention and had them pay for > your band, how did that work? Guest guest
will receive PT through an early interventionist. We finally heard back from BabyNet yesterday. I still don't know about the other medical expenses being covered because it takes up to 30 days for approval on that part. We chose Easter Seals as his early interventionist. We should hear from them next week so we can begin his PT schedule. He gets his band on 8/17.
