Guest guest
Lupus and Depression Depression is a natural reaction to major illnesses. You do not need to be a martyr and try to muddle through life without help. There are options available to a patient that will keep you from suffering needlessly. Depression not only affects the patient, but affects the relationships between a patient and their family, co-workers, and friends as well. The life of the patient may be in danger if the depression is not controlled and the patient becomes suicidal. Depression can be controlled. When a doctor asks you if you are depressed .. just be honest. It is normal to be depressed when faced with some life situations and there is no stigma in admitting to being unable to cope. Personally .. I got so depressed that I went down the rabbit hole with Alice and had tea with the Mad Hatter and felt perfectly at home! You can slide down the " depression hole " for a visit .. as long as you remember that it is much better all around if you don't make it a permanent place of residence! Ask for help .. demand for help from your doctor! For many of us it took several different medications before one was found that brought the depression to a manageable level. Treating depression is NOT an overnight process. Some medications take days to weeks to control depression. Do not lose heart, talk to your doctor or therapist, let them know exactly what you are feeling. If they don't know how you feel, they wont know how to treat you.
