My daughter started her band at 5 mo, and has had it for 2 mo. My

doctor (crainial facial plastic surgeon) recommends she wear it until

she is 9 mo old so her head is harder and regression is less of a

problem. she has a starband and I think they fit longer than DOC

bands. I don't know other doctors opinions on this, but it might be

worth checking with the doc that prescribed your band.

good luck,

My son graduated from his first band at not quite 7 months and due

to tort and prematurity was still sleeping on the back of his head.

He grew so quickly that his graduation caught us a little off guard,

but we tried to be as aggressive as we could in therapy leading up

to and after graduation. We figured therapy was less expensive and

less of a hassle than a second band. Babies only develop as fast as

they can though and we ended up rebanding him for regression. The

other option would have been to immediately put him in a second band

to prevent regression from happening. Our doctor's theory was that

he looked fine at the end of the first band and he might all of a

sudden catch up, so why reband without seeing regression first.

Plus, our insurance does not cover the band. The risk we took doing

that is that his head will not improve with the second band back to

the place it was at at the end of the first band (if that makes

sense). It is a tough call and regression is very, very rare. I

think many babies start responding to therapy and then never need

the second band anyway. Also, have you checked out the torticollis

board on ? Maybe you can try some other techniques to work on

the tort besides PT so it is more quickly straightened out.

It is very frustrating, I know, but five weeks is actually enough

time that you might really see some progress in the tort.
